I don't think the state of the music charts is simons or x factors fault, it's just a talent competition and very entertaining at times. but i don't think it should be expected that winners are automatically made into pop stars. capitalism has affected everything from video games to music, we are in a period of history that is all about cynical money making. Good luck to Leon and Joe, they are good singers and i'm glad they won, but i hope we all live long enough to see a period of originality and meaning again, that is absent from our culture today.

I would have been happier if it didn't even chart.

Joe will do well in the entertainment business regardless. He's perfect for the West end. Its not all about the charts. Especially these days when selling music doesnt even make much money with all the downloading.
Most performers are just happy to make a decent living from doing what they love. He has the voice and the personality to get work constantly. And Im sure he has already made some decent money. Plus the world of musical theatre will be gay heaven for him. Bless. |

You don't really get a second chance on Syco, as Steve Brookstein and Leon Jackson will happily tell you.

Wow, Joe is a flop entering the chart at number 6 this week, Pixie Lott has come in at 12 she must be a disaster then.
What is this obseesion that unless a record gets to number one in its first week that its a flop, he has entered at 6 in a top 75 chart for goodness sake, I bet loads of singers wish they could do that. |

This brings up the question:
- Are these x-factor and BGT type competitions really GOOD for the industry and for the artists overall or do they ultimately sell them out, kill the artists greater possibilities and in some ways (ultimately) deliver less quality to the public? I think some of the arguments in favour of the competitions are good but then again I do wonder what could be better if they did not exists at all. but yeah, most of these winners will not see much more that a semi-successful song or two but maybe a decent part in a popular play and a healthy run through some nightclub/venue circuits for a season or two. which is not so bad! |

And actually its very normal now for big talent show winners to end up in musical theatre. Most AI winners seem to have ended up there at some point. If you wanna see it as a fail then I suggest you compare and contrast it to what they had BEFORE they entered the contest. Nothing but dreams. Like I said, its not all about the charts for most performers. Joe is more famous than most of the current top40 anyways and always will be. |

Let's be honest, X Factor voting doesn't make the distinction between who's the most popular on the show and who would be a successful pop star. Eoghan Quigg made it to the final over Diana Vickers, yet his attempt at a career failed miserably and he's nowhere to be seen; Diana's still going. Series 5 panned out in the right way; with the better acts finishing in the top half, therefore launching successful careers. Series 6 saw a lot of great acts being voted out (tactically, might I add) by the judges to the detriment of the show. Jedward are the success story of last year. That says a lot.

no. 6 is a flop after just performing on the x factor tbh. most of the performers on there get a major boost.
