I think people underestimate how seriously the relevant authorities take cases like this. Apart from anything else, the Portugese would be absolutely cacking themselves that such an incident would deter holidaymakers and therefore lose them millions and jobs etc
Which means they would have been extremely thorough in their investigations. Reading some people on here you'd think the investigation was run by monkeys who didnt spot glaring evidence. They look at every detail and consider all possibilities. Fact is, they just didnt have any evidence to even take the McCanns to trial. Saying they refused to answer certain questions means nothing without knowing what the questions actually were.
