I've liked Joan Cusack since Addams Family Values and Justin Chatwin in the Weeds pilot so was pleasantly surprised they were in it as I didn't know that. The US Sheila isn't as hysterical as the UK one (and I love the UK one!) so I'll have to watch to see if this changes but I thought Justin Chatwin was a great Steve! Tbh I really don't like James McAvoy because he pretty much plays the same sort of roles in everything he's in. US Fiona was pretty good.
Just a few transitions I didn't really like were making baby Liam black because I didn't see the point in it and it kinda makes the fact Ian reminds Frank of his mum and having a different biological father redundant. Didn't mind the black Veronica but again didn't really see the point of it when it still had Kash and his kids (both boys?) to represent the ethnicity.
Lastly, I don't think it handled the swapping between drama and comedy too well. While the UK one sways in and out of it quite well and still has a bit of a depressing sombre overtone the US one was either just depressing or had that badly executed scene with Karen under the table. When Lip jumped out the window that CGI made me cringe.
