It's the result of a long-running 'dominant' patrical societal belief. Women are either saints or sluts. Men have the power. That's how it's been seen for years and in some cultures it's still the belief.
Just look at how most women are presented in the media. As far back as biblical times Eden was a stupid bitch, in ancient Greek/Egyptian myths the monsters are mostly women (gorgons, mermaids, sirens, sphinxes), in the monarchy it's believed a queen is weak so it's always about their first born sons, and in movies if the main character is a guy then his love interest will only slow the pace of the plot. The 1990s was very pro-feminism but the 2000s dipped.
