Never one to shy away from the media glare, Alex Reid has proposed to Chantelle Houghton live on television.

Despite only dating for seven months, and both having failed marriages behind them, the cage-fighter popped the question tonight.

Surrounded by a rather unromantic setting of a studio audience, Katie Price's former flame, 36, asked the Celebrity Big Brother princess on Irish programme The Saturday Night Show, hosted by Brendan O'Connor.

The couple were taking part in a joint interview in which they were discussing how they’re trying to conceive using IVF treatment.

Having caused havoc on her body with endless dieting and a battle with bulimia, Chantelle is seeking other methods other than natural ones.

While Reid is not yet formally divorced from model Jordan, it is believed an application to end their relationship is already before the courts.

Chantelle has had a similarly doomed history, tying the knot with her reality TV co-star Samuel Preston in 2006 and divorcing the following year.

The 28-year-old told host O'Connor she revealed to Alex about her fertility problems when they were ‘drunk in a bar’.

She also said they have their 'fingers crossed' about a pregnancy.

Having admitted they had 'names sorted', she refused to discuss it any further and reveal what the shortlist might be.

The discussion prompted repeated offers by O’Connor for Alex to pop the question in front of the audience.

Reid dodged the bullet twice, claiming it wouldn’t be 'romantic' because he had been told to do it.

But just moments after grabbing Chantelle’s breast saying 'I’m a breast man', he was offered 'one last chance' and took the offer.

'We’re in Dublin,' he began, 'I haven’t got a ring, but you know what, I’m going to do it,' he said. 'Seriously, nobody tell anyone! Will you marry me?'

Gushing and giggling she answered ‘yeah’, before the pair embarked on a passionate kiss that forced the camera to move back to O’Connor.

'You saw it here,' he said, 'the whole of Ireland wishes you the best for the future.'

I'm sure they'll be very happy .....
