I guess that often I look from the perspective of "there for the grace of god and all that". No one knows what's around the corner - and these days: with people losing jobs right, left and centre: money worries becoming more prevailant - jobs so much harder to come by etc - that it can happen all too easily - unfortunately. ![]() |

I thought about this before hypothetically, and probably homelessness is one of the few things that would push me toward prostitution. I've heard life on the streets is truly awful, loads are alcoholics and drug addicts and there's a chance being beaten and raped if you fall in with the wrong crowd.
So I guess having sex with strangers wouldn't seem as bad confronted with that alternative. But I think part of my soul would die, and it'd be difficult enough being close to people I don't know, let alone have sex. |

I know, people think 'Ill just do it once' when theyre really strapped of cash and boom they end up doing it every day of every week.
I think thats whats so bad about it, people become dependent on prostitution and try less and less to get out their situation and become complacement on 'just getting by'. Which says more about what aspirations they have in life... waste.

it may be less to do with lack of aspirations and more to do with the desperation to survive - I know that sounds lame but that is true for some that are in that situation I'm sure. I do think it's the type of profession that does come with far too much stigma attached to it: due to those who do go down that line for drugs etc. That's the very sad part to it - but there is that in many aspects of life too. |

Look at how 'promiscious' people are these days compared to even as little as 20/30 years ago (well you can't since you are so young) -but sleeping around and having god knows how many sexual partners before settling down is regarded as 'acceptable' these days by many. I'm sure if it was legalised, controlled - that perceptions would eventually differ and it be regarded as less sleazy that it is currently. |

Escort agencies of course do in fact provide the service of prostitution that is "left up to the individual" as they do not advertise sex for cash. There are plenty of willing people in the escort industry. There are also high class prostitutes that offer their services to business men in swanky hotels. Ones that run their businesses from home and advertise in telephone boxes. Street workers. Many kinds. I am not sure I understand how legalised prostitution/brothels would "remove the safeguards in place currently for victims". Could you please explain?

think of it being like the last hour of a market stall and you still have some goodies leftover that you could get rid of at a cheaper price before you call it a night......... hell, you might even get a Buy One, Get One Free Deal !
You got to think positive here Jords. |

It's seems that when it comes to debate Kizzy - you seem to have this "just coz I said so" reply tactic, but can never actually validate or offer anything to substantiate and back up your views. It actually kills debates rather than enriches them. |

So you make a statement that makes no sense to me and you don't wish to explain yourself? I sort of got the idea you were avoiding the question, that's why I re-posted.
