£40 sounds about right, including train fares.

I did, but not anymore. Too much sixth form work. It was good having a job, though. Would save me being on Facebook, Twitter, here and that so regularly.

I knew you were in 6th form... that's why I asked.

Including pre-drinks, no more than £30. I'm very cheap - I drink a lot of wine before I go out since it gets me drunk fastest.

It would depend on where I am going and whether just a drink or a meal also, or a late night out. I think things start to get more expensive if people start buying rounds. Whilst sipping a mineral water on their round, when it comes to yours they order a double JD and coke.

for reasons unknown - wine blows the head off me. Even at this ripe old age..... and give me the most goddam awful hangovers.

It is better to have a few drinks before you got now, although you have to be careful that you don't have too much to drink that they won't let you in the clubs or pubs.

The most I've spent was £130... on my 22nd night out. Spend £65 on stuff for the party, £20 on dinner and having a cocktail with greg/mark/friends during the day and then £45 out... I was generous that night.

I went to The Charlotte Street Hotel once, in the west end, with a few others for drinks. I ordered 2 vodka and oranges (they normally serve you doubles anyway), but I was a bit shocked when it came to £18 for the 2 drinks. A night out can become very expensive drinking in such places. Needless to say I moved on somewhere else. Those were the most expensive drinks I ever bought at £9 a glass.

London can be a very expensive place to go out.

The Banyan Tree Hotel in Bangkok is an expensive little number. worth it though for the Vertigo restaurant. well... if you count walking out to it - retching, stomach flips and then clinging to the walls in absolute terror!

$80, so about 50 pounds (for your point of reference).

How can socialising with friends and enjoying good company / food / service be a massive waste of money?

People need to go out and enjoy - live a little.

Not unless you count everything that you pay for solely for the purpose of enjoyment as a waste of money.

Around £20-30. I never get into the rounds thing unless there is two of us.
