Who does that go to? The School or the company?

Profit goes to the Company
and School.

Is not the same in every school.

But some schools share profits
under new contracts.

..only the free schools..they're a completely different matter..they're the only ones who will be run more like a private company and they're less accountable so I believe they will make profits..bu that has nothing to do with local authority schools...money isn't even paid to the school at all..it goes directly to the local authority catering division..in fact if anything..a lot of primary schools organise 'special occassion' lunches from time to time and that comes out of their budget..so they're making a loss if you like..
..it's not an accurate picture to think that the majority of primary schools profit from school meals

..schools can't always offer an alternative when they're only say cooking 25-35 lunches a day..then that really wouldn't be cost effective..that £2 which parents pay..has to cover the cost of everything..kitchen salaries too...

...it's just not realistic

But if it's a private company they have to make a profit, otherwise there would be no point in doing it.

I don't know, maybe it's cos our primary schools don't have canteens, it just seems strange that people expect schools to be responsible for kids diets, that should be the parents job imo.

I agree, but i don't like kids eating processed junk. It's wrong.

It IS the parents job, but when they are at school theres nowt you can do about it. Kids arent allowed to come home for lunch anymore (at seniors they get half an hour or so out of school...so technically they could come home but I mean younger kids)

A lot of parents probably dont even know about the junk their kids are eating...its not often you ge a full answer from a kid when you ask what they had for lunch, and a lot would hear 'cucumber' and think thats fine...not knowing it was 2./3 slices . And some cant even afford to change it, not everyone can afford to make packed lunches daily...so their kids HAVE to eat what the school provide. Which IMO should be healthy...especially with everyone so up in arms about obese children etc.

It's not expensive to make packed lunches though.

I;m not saying it is. But some people (through no fault of their own, not talking about scroungers and that) cant afford to pay the extra tenner or so a week...and get free school meals.

Oh right ok, I wasn't taking that into account, as I said, we don't have school dinners here at all

..it's no more expensive than a school lunch and then you know exactly what and how much your child is eating
