Hollyoaks star Ashley Margolis has announced that he is leaving the soap.

The actor, who has been portraying Ricky Campbell since summer 2009, confirmed the news on his Twitter page this afternoon (May 18).

Margolis told his online followers: "So I can finally say.. My final eps have been written. I will be leaving the show next month. It's been a fab 3 years but time to move on!

"Thanks to all of you lot for your kind messages about my curly twin.. Keep watching anyway!!"

He added: "It was a tough decision to leave but I want to do other things!! I've had the best 3 years of annoying my castmates! They will miss me.. :-)"

Ricky's first major storyline on Hollyoaks saw him acting as a carer for his father Martin, who suffers from MS. Fans will also remember his double act with best friend Duncan Button, who was played by Dean Aspen.

The sixth-former's final scenes are expected to air in a few months' time.

But anyway the Ste & Brendan getting back together storyline is going to be a borefest.

I came across this information in a blog from someone who had visited the Hollyoaks set:

Yesterday I was invited on a little trip to the Hollyoaks studio to have a look around, and have the chance to be an extra in their Maverick Sabre episode. I had such an amazing time, I can’t even begin to express it.

While I was there I watched a promo of things that will be coming up in the next few weeks, and afterwards had a little chat with Emma Smithwick about it.

I think bits and pieces of what I said are already around on the internet, but I thought I’d just make a post to get it in one place. If you don’t want any Hollyoaks spoilers I suggest you stop reading.



Okay, first things first - the promo:
A clip of Doug and Leanne, where Doug blurts out that he thinks he is gay.
Later on, a scene where Leanne is talking to Doug in the flat about his sexual confusion, not realising that Riley is behind Doug in the hallway. Riley pops out looking very unimpressed.
The villagers begin to find out about Doug. Dennis, Texas and Riley are in Price Slice (other characters may have been there too, I’m not sure), Dennis looks up and exclaims “Doug’s gay?!”. Cue moody glares from Riley.
Doug and Ste arguing in Carter and Hay. Ste shouts at Doug that he knows how hard it is (coming out), then it cut to them kissing and Brendan watching them through the window looking very sad.

After that the promo became hard to follow, as people were chatting and walking infront of me a lot *grumble*, but I think I saw:
Mercedes and the return of the pimp!doctor.
Someone punching someone else to the floor. Someone got in my way just as it happened, so I’m not sure on this but I think it was Will punching Dodger.

Okay, so then I managed to get hold of Emma Smithwick and here are the things she told me:
I asked if Doug would turn out to be bisexual and she said no. Doug is 100% gay. Definitely.
About Doug and Riley’s falling out, she said it was nothing to do with homophobia on Riley’s part, but that Riley has had a very bad year and will be having an especially rough week around the time of Doug’s coming out. She said that for Riley it’s about people in his life seeming like one thing and then being another, for example his sister becoming his brother and his grandfather turning out to be a murderer.
She told me that when Brendan catches Ste and Doug kissing he will not flip out. He will be hurt, but he will handle it in a ‘very Brendan-y way’ and will ‘play the long game’.
About Brendan’s feelings towards Ste, she said that he definitely wants Ste back with him, and not being able to have Ste but also having to see him happy with someone else will be awful for Bren.
She loves to see Ste happy, and there will be stories for him that do not revolve around his love life.
She also confirmed that Joel and Theresa will get together.
Walker will be returning soon, and will cause a whole load of trouble.

She also told me the following things about Hollyoaks Later:
It will be very, very dark. She talked about having quite a visceral ‘woah’ reaction when reading some of the scripts.
She confirmed that we will meet members of the Brady family, but couldn’t say who specifically.
It will explore Brendan and Cheryl’s background, in-depth, and shed a lot of light on why Brendan is the way he is.
Joel will also be in Hollyoaks Later.
Something major will happen to Brendan, Cheryl and Joel that there will be no coming back from.
Oh, and that Bart, Jono and Neil will also have quite a dark storyline (or something, I might not have listened so well to that part).
