I'm astounded that the school were aware of this way back in February yet chose not to inform the mother of their concerns - knowing that a relationship was blossoming - how the hell can that happen and be left for this amount of time.

Some heads need to roll on this one.

Yes and that same Church of England School
had another Teacher doing the same a year back
he was sacked.

Robert Healy, then aged 27, had sex three or four times with one teenage victim after taking her back to his father's house over a period of a fortnight.
Jailing him at Lewes Crown Court, Judge Charles Kemp said his "predatory" behaviour was a "grave breach of trust".

I couldn't believe when I heard that today, that's totally out of order, that the parents weren't told of this.
