I cried at Marley and me pretty much from the scene he struggles to get up the hill. Anyone who's had an elderly pet dog will know.

Dad's intending to break the strike to earn money to help Billy and return to work much to his older son's dismay. Dad says 'he's only a boy, we're finished, let's give the boy a chance'. Strike breaking was a serious business when the government took on the miners. Billy's dad wants something better for Billy and for him to have a future.
