I know I did. I can be a lot of negative things but any money I have in my life I want through my own hard work, not through taking someone else's that doesn't belong to me.

Keep it, especially if it is substantial.

I've had the opposite experience I dropped my purse outside sainsbury's when I was putting the trolley back and the person that found it actually went to the trouble of getting my number, as she didnt want to hand it the police and I got everything back intact.

I'd like to think I'd be selfless enough to hand it in to the police.

But a boy needs a new pair of trainers...

Last Christmas - and I know I said this at the time on here - I was rushing around shopping, and accidentally left my bag hanging on my trolley when I returned it. In my bag was my Blackberry, my purse, all my cards and ID, some DVDs, CDs and an xbox game I'd bought as presents... loads of stuff. I didn't remember it till I'd got home and realised my house keys were in the bag... along with my address, which would have meant changing all the locks. I went back to the store and someone had handed it in, complete with its contents. They didn't even leave their name and address so I could thank them. It restores your faith... so yes, on the strength of that, I would hand the money in.

Pfft. In that case I would definitely have justified it by thinking of the amount of my tax that has gone to bailing out the banks. I would see it as a rebate

This is the only time I would hand it in. If ID was in it

I assumed we were talking about a random bag of cash

Once i lost my wallet on a night out at Uni, and it had like 30 quid of cash in it and all my cards in it, and someone handed it in to the Uni reception.

Was amazingly surprised.

I'd absolutely turn it in to the cops.

There's not a single part of me that would even think for a second that keeping it was a good idea.

Now if i found a bag full of drugs... that's a different story...

but money? there's no way that i'd keep it.

I would hand it in. You never know who had the money so I would be too busy looking over my shoulder

I'd be skeptical about giving it to the police, they'd just have it for themselves.

So I'd keep it for myself.

Then if I saw a news item about distraught parents who lost a bag of cash they'd raised to get their disabled child a much needed operation I'd be suicidal.

I found a wallet on a bus once, and the wallet was pretty packed with money. I gave it to the bus driver.

So I'm not sure what I'd do if faced with the situation. If it was a handbag I would turn it in, if it was a paper bag, I think I'd keep it.

Because it was the main street and police go past so I was going to flag one down. And I was on the way to the pub, which meant I would have carried it all night (drunkeness and money are not good things).
