Callum was an excellent choice of target for Dex. He was already unpopular and so there was greater social capitol, within the house, in being his enemy than in being either his friend or a disinterested party. But that wasn't the only thing that made him a good choice of target: Callum was clearly smitten with Charlie and also very clearly not adept at navigating social situations. It was clear to anybody watching from a distance (which Dex and Gina were) that Callum had more potential than the others for 'snapping' under pressure, and his desire for Charlie provided the perfect mechanism to exploit to that end.

Dex has needled and needled in quiet, under the radar ways, so any response from Callum read as unwarranted escalation.

Fair play to him (as the Hms might say ;p). It's a game, and he played it much better than Callum did.

Callum is still bad mouthing Dexter now he's out. Dexter will need a restraining order with him.
