Nope, until series 7 the sing-off ceased at F5 and the act with the fewest votes was eliminated automatically

Then that changed in 2010 because they had 16 acts and three double eliminations which ****ed up the numbers (I think there were seven acts left in the quarter final?), meaning week eight had a bottom two for the first time and controversially (Mary VS Cher) so did the semi-final as there were five acts left
