He said something stupid. He knew it and he regretted it. He tried to apologise. Linda rightfully was upset. He should try to apologise again tomorrow.

He didn't want to apologise zee, he wanted to rub salt in. He wanted to stand there and watch her cry knowing he achieved EXACTLY what he set out to achieve, objective accomplished.
