Not like there's much to celebrate really, obviously he's an awful person but he's lived a long life, his Church and his views have achieved worldwide notoriety, like Alex said he's now largely handed over to his daughter and it seems like he will die of natural causes. He can probably look back on his life with a fair amount of satisfaction

I actually hope loads of gay people go to his funeral to prove that although he had that view, death isnt wished upon anyone and we still respect him. I would hate to think that gay people would wish this upon him and be so disrespectful, no matter what his views are.

It's not a cult. it's a religion. and WBC are no more hateful or destructive than any of the other big ones.

Just because the other religions are better at disguising their bigotry in politically correct language doesn't make them any less crazy or hateful. and at least this one isn't flying planes into buildings.

i wonder though Josy, if you think about it objectively.,.. who is responsible for more hatred and bigotry... the catholic church has certainly caused a million times more misery than the WBC...Islam as well(I don't need to give examples of Islam's violence). I think of jewish snipers shooting at a gay rights parade in Jerusalem, or orthodox jews harassing young girls walking to school for not covering themselves.

I think WBC is actually preaching THE BIBLE, as it is written. They are being honest about their religion. unlike many other religious folks who just like to pretend that certain scriptures don't exist. At least they are being honest about what the scriptures actually say.

They speak the hate that is actually written in the scriptures. They expose the scriptures for what they are, hate speech.

The truth is Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, are no different than the KKK. The WBC just make it more obvious. They don't hide behind pretty speech, or politically correct wordage.

The other religions say "love the sinner hate the sin", and the WBC says "god hates fags", but they are all saying the same thing. They all say that God condemn gays.

and they are all telling lies, because the truth is, there is no God.

as someone who was raised catholic, i would argue that the whole argument that other religions are more loving or true, is actually more harmful to our youth.

I was raised in a so-called "loving" church community, and no matter what nice words they use, it was always clear that being gay was wrong, and that homosexuals go to hell, and that being gay is wrong.

Atleast the WBC are honest and direct about it.

I do understand the point you are making Alex but they are still only true to the parts of the bible they want to be true to, for example they don't accept communion when it states in the bible you must accept it.

i don't think anything in the bible is truly clear. is the fact that a man was able to live in the belly of a whale also clear? the bible makes no attempt to explain how that was possible, it's just a miracle.

Is the idea that a burning bush was able to speak and communicate the will of God also clear? again, no explanation how it's possible, it's just a miracle.

nothing in the bible is clear. it's a hodge-podge of superstitious nonsense. But if you are gonna believe in the bible, then you have to believe in it all, and the WBC makes it perfectly clear how ridiculous and absurd the bible actually is.

I only reacted to classifying WBC specifically as a "cult". Aslong as we classify all organized religions as a cult, we have no disagreement, Josy.

I think the Pope telling Africans that it's against God's will to use condoms, in the middle of an AIDS epidemic in Africa, is far more evil than the dozen or so WBC members standing outside of a funeral holding offensive signs.

umm, it does come into it, because i don't talk to poor people at all. So how am I a hypocrite? I don't lecture anyone.
