I guess globally it raises awareness of how women are still persecuted around the world which is a good thing, but when it is celebrated here as such doesn't really sit right

I dont get the raising awareness thing tbh. People are already aware, and those that arent are not going to look up on stuff just because a day has been named after something.

International womens day, for me, is a pile of crap. Mind I think all 'days' (bar mothers and fathers day..which I think is a nice idea) are bollocks.

In what way am I showing them disrespect please? I have nothing but respect - I lost my grandfather last week at the age of 96 - he was a serving soldier in Word War 2 and was injured but sent back out to fight. My other grandfather was a POW for 5 years....I have utmost respect for what they went through but I also have respect for my Nan at home, bringing up small children on rations, with the threat of bombings and worrying how the love of her life was getting on, losing brothers and working in an ammunition factory....she deserves some respect too thank you very much

false outrage again

you implied i disrespected the women at home, which is utter nonsense. it was incredibly difficult of course to raise kids when the father is abroad in a bloodbath war.
as ive said 101 times the war in this world is rich v poor, its NOT and never ever has been men v women. that is lies spouted by frankly immoral disingenuous radical feminists, often just to create a base for themselves. those radical feminists did resport to terrorism too. yet thats of course brushed over. also brushed is the fact a man a nasty man called lloyd george fought tooth and nail to fight for women to get the vote. he did that whilst taking over the "great" war from the psychopathic generals and finally lead us to win the war....the same PM actually introduced the first taxing of the rich, the first national insurance contributions, all of which helped create the welfare state and the NHS , which was also introduced by a nasty man called neu bevan. all of which has proved a Godsend for every single man AND WOMAN. in this country ever since.

did you know in wales they introduced equality opportunity legislation several centuries earlier. but they got smashed by the monarchy and the laws were abolished.
other issues in our "proud history in the past century or 2 include the endlessly rehashed titanic story. a story which visually displayed the war between the rich and the poor. the poor built the magnificent ship. the rich showed off and rode it too fast. bang it crashes and the rich try to escape and drown the poor workers
the actual figures are 61% of the 1st class survived
24% of the third class survived
of the survivors only 20% were male and many of them were children.
those nasty sexist woman hating forefathers of ours patronising those poor women b
by saving their lives and allowing themselves to die instead
chivalry my backside totally patronising. these women would much rather have died themselves with their children?

I think ADHD and dyslexia are both over-diagnosed...

I also think some people can play on mental illnesses and pressure doctors into saying that there is something wrong with them, when there isn't... I might make a thread on this explaining why though....

There is male or female, you are born one and may if you wish have a procedure to become another. Don't piss-about with 1000 different options on forms just to appease people who feel they have to be different.

Wow I have one

Gender and sexuality are sliding scale spectrums and getting rid of the labels that surround them would solve numerous social issues

Yet all that they're doing is adding 1000 more meaningless labels (and letters too) to the pot.

the monarchy represent nothing but 1000 years of rape and pillage
the fact we actually choose to keep them and glorify them in song, the fact our national anthem isnt about us the people and this beautiful land but about some old bag sititng on a throne we all pay for sickens the heck out of me........the fact they own land altogether about a fifth the size of wales and yet we seem to not care? you do realise technically we belong to the crown? we think were classless and free, were still fcking peasants as far as i can see

..hmmm, I think I probably agree with you, that we don't really need the monarchy..I used to think that they were good for tourism..?..but I don't think it would suffer that much/if at all, if we didn't have them...

..it's not that easy to get a diagnosis though Caitlin..(not for children..)..especially with dyslexia..?..I think that ADHD, is a bit more 'controversial' though..what I find annoying is that some parents often don't renew their child's prescription straight away when it's due, so they come in and say..'oh, they might be a bit 'difficult' atm because I haven't got round to getting their medication yet/I'll do it at the weekend/next week..' etc...Ritalin and similar medications are 'mind stimulating/altering' drugs, they're fairly heavy duty stuff..so if you feel as though your child can go days without having them, then do they really need them at all/they kind of either do or they don't..don't put that stuff into your child if they don't need it...

..anyway, I guess that's a controversial opinion, but a thread would be interesting, if you decide to make it...

..oh also/controversial opinion maybe...I'm also starting to think that we have a really less than adequate mental health care system/I'm not saying it's the fault of the mental health care workers themselves, but probably more cutbacks/workloads etc....

I was just watching bbc news this morning and thinking how wierd it would be if the male presenters showed most of their bare arms and the top part of their chest.

why do women on tv like to show as much skin as possible?

the real reason?

Im with Marsh here.

Gender = 2 categories: male or female.

This is not dependent on if you have a cock or vagina since people can be transgendered.
Im not fully a believer in that idea however I am open to it.

I would say in terms of having 'masculine' or 'feminine' traits then yes there is a sliding scale spectrum.
Nobody has 100% masculine or 100% feminine traits only.

Its more like...

| Very Masculine
|
| Mostly Masculine
|
| Somewhat more Masculine
|
| Slightly more Masculine
|
| Masculine & Feminine
|
| Slightly more Feminine
|
| Somewhat more Feminine
|
| Mostly Feminine
|
| Very Feminine

I think it definitely would, if anything I think the amount of tourism that is brought in because of the royal family gets understated. Pretty much all of our main historical landmarks are royal sites and major royal events still attract a huge amount of interest and tourism. The royal wedding gave a big boost to the economy and attracted so many visitors and so much attention, it's often the countries who got rid of their monarchs like Germany, France, Russia etc. who are the most fascinated by ours

The monarchy might be mainly ceremonial these days but it's still so strongly connected with our country's identity and history that you can't really separate it from them, I don't think we will ever abolish it because public support remains strong but it would be a sad day if we did

..yeah, that used to be my thought process as well/that they were beneficial because of tourism but I'm not so sure anymore because I think the history of the monarchy is preserved anyway and tourists would still come to see that...I'm not sure that the current monarchy itself is really necessary, their homes etc are all partially open to the public and that's probably what they come to see/it would just be 'where the monarchy used to live/how they lived' rather than, they live here/spend time here...

...the weddings etc do attract much interest from all over the world and therefore visitors..but when they're often made into public holidays, they also lose a lot of revenue....

..I'm not 'anti-monarchy' as such, I'm just not convinced that we need them so much anymore...thay often seem more 'celebrity-ish..'....
