I have mixed feelings about this. I dont think that because they "previously " took drugs they should have been ruled out of fertility treatement, but I do think they should have completed the methadone course and been clear of drugs for at least 12 months before being given the treatment. They are not yet over the hill and any kind of stressfuly situation could cause a relapse to drugs which would be a shame for them and the babies.

I would imagine they are being closely monitored and supported through the early stages but what about after that, hmm I just worry thats all,.

Yeah I agree with what Sunny said, providing they can prove being drug free for at least 12 months and as long as them and the babies are monitored it should be ok.

After all I know its rare but some people do change

This has made me really really mad!

I mean there are couples out there who arent dirty druggies amd they try for months and months to get fertility treatment off the NHS and then theres stories like this where dirty horrible druggies get to have twins....Its wrong and i know my views seem strong but I think its a disgrace.

I'm with you Ella. Working couples have to fund their own IVF treatment as well, even if they aren't earning a LOT of money. Some are just beyond the cut-off to qualifiy for the treatment. Also some are being denied it on the grounds of age. I fail to see how the NHS can justify this. The couple did not clean up their act. Everyone is entitled to a past, but their problems aren't in their past. Their problems are here and now, and therefore it is wrong for them to be helped to have children.

Also, the twitching in the sleep part of the story really made my blood boil. Nobody will convince me that has nothing to do with the methadone.

BTW Ella, congrats on your news as well... Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

You have to live with the consequences of your actions.

I think the NHS should be abolished entirely. In fact we should just abolish the whole government.
