It's because in America, they have freedom of speech. We, in the UK, have freedom of speech but with certain restrictions, which has lead our country to becoming more careful of what we say. Americans are allowed to be homophobic, racist and generally are allowed to speak out more so that's why there's that contrast.
This is why Austin, Farrah and Jenna are so loud. They are not obnoxious, they are American. That's how they are, always outspoken and honest and never holding back like us Brits. just in case you wanted to know ![]() |

Yeah, they're Americans... but they're obnoxious too. I've lived in the US a couple of times and visited quite a few states and I can honestly say I've never met anyone quite as obnoxious as Farrah. In fact, I watched some CBB last week with an American and he was appalled and apologetic. I reassured him that we had sent him the Osbornes so it's only fair.

I think it's less to do with nationality and 'freedom of speech', and more to do with who the housemates actually are.
Look at the housemates themselves. Could you see any of the Brits being loud and obnoxious? No, because none of them (apart from James I guess) are like that. Look at the Americans, a few of them from reality TV shows that thrive on being over the top and outrageous. They are loud and obnoxious because it is Farrah, Jenna, Janice etc.. not because they're American. Nationality accounts for the behavior on both sides in some ways, although I think it's more to do with the actual people we have in this series. You could easily have a load of quiet and content Americans, with a load of loud and obnoxious Brits. Last edited by Jamesy; 08-09-2015 at 06:39 PM. |

What i think youll find is interesting, is if they put uk civillians and us civillans together, youd have a very explosive show.
In the UK celebrities are very conscious of how people perceive their personality, whereas in america they are only conscious of their physical looks, which means that the brits are MAJORLY holding back |

Being an American doesn't mean you are loud I've travelled around many States right across the country and I've never met anyone like Farrah or Jenna.

Thank you!! This is exactly true. The Americans in this serious are picked for their loud and over the top personalities. They make good care crash TV. Just like Perez did last year. U.S. reality TV stars are quite different over all in the U.S. compared to UK realty stars. Not to sound like I'm 'taking the show too seriously' but it does get kind of frustrating having to hear the 'loud and stupid American' comments so Thank You Jamesy;8127981 for this. |

I deal with all nationalities in my line of work...and believe me the Americans are quite demanding and very needy. I have come across many Farrahs and Jenna's of this world..

I don't think its necessarily a free speech thing, although that might be part of it. I think it's moe to do with the American spirit of individuality. I think in Britain, and most of Europe, there is a feeling that individuals don't matter so much, the good of the group is more important. but America is the opposite, America has a spirit of every Individual should have equal rights and everyone can do whatever they like and be as selfish as they like, along as they aren't directly hurting someone else.
I think it's more about Europe believing in the group being most important, but in America, it's all about the individual being most important. It;'s hard to explain, but in America there is nothing wrong with being selfish, we believe that everyone has the right to be selfish and stand up for themselves. but it seems like in Europe people feel like they should be part of a group instead of being individuals. in Europe they think it's more noble to sacrifice for the group, but in America it's more noble to stand up for yourself. It's just a very different mindset and ethos.
