Default The X Factor to be rested? (Dermot thinks so)

Quote:
X Factor could be rested for a few years before being brought back even stronger, its executive producer has claimed.

Richard Holloway spoke about the show's declining ratings during a Royal Television Society event in London.

"[X Factor] will have a finite life span. But I think you then rest it, then you bring it back," Billboard quotes him as saying.

"As long as we produce the show to a standard, which the public really, really wants to see... then there is no reason why we can't produce it for years and years and years."

He added that he has a really good "give-and-take relationship" with show boss Simon Cowell, though the two do not always agree and will debate things.

"Nothing is forever," Holloway said, while suggesting that the media is too preoccupied with overnight TV ratings data despite changing technology.

"Viewing habits have changed enormously, especially in the last couple of years... we all got to appreciate that and kind of consider it more."

Holloway is also an executive producer of Britain's Got Talent, and claimed it was a "more engaged format" than other high-rating shows like The Great British Bake Off.

"I think it could run for many, many years. It's our most profitable show," he said of the variety talent contest.

In 2013, Cowell signed a three-year deal with ITV to keep The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent on air until 2016.

The X Factor is currently in its 12th series in the UK, and returns for a new episode on Sunday (September 27) at 7pm.

I sort of hope that this is true tbh. Whilst I love the show, it just doesn't feel right at the moment, so a rest to come up with new ideas might be the right step forward.
