My mum isn't that protective but she can be in a weird way.
My dad surprisingly is very protective, although you'd never think it. Like the other week I had bought a travel card for the day (my oyster hadn't arrived) and it was 7PM and I was heading back from the Apple Store in Covent Garden (he works in CG) and he made me cab, so wasted like £7 on the train ticket - said it was "too dangerous". Are your parents protective? |

My dad still lectures me before I go out anywhere, he even tries to convince to leave my phone at home just in case someone tries to mug me, tells me to not carry cash, which I don't do anyway, it's unbearable sometimes.

Nah, my mum didn't even ask who i was meeting or where i was going when we went to COL. It's good having laid back parents.

Ever since the brute Bobby Beale left Lucy for dead I'm not allowed to play with my sister's jewellery box.

My parents have never been at all protective. By the time I was 13 I'd go off camping for the weekend with my climbing friends who were all older than me but they didn't seem to worry about who these people were or was I going to be safe on the rock. By 15 I often didn't come home until the early hours and they were always in bed asleep. They were so laid back they were practically horizontal.
It wasn't until I had my own children that I realized just how unprotected I'd felt as a child. It felt a bit like rejection, like they didn't really care. I love them to bits but I will always question why they were so lax with my sister and me. I like to think I've been reasonable with my children. I wouldn't say I'm over protective but I've always needed to know they are safe.

My parents were really overprotective. I was the youngest and I was born deaf so they went a bit overboard with it all tbh.

Sadly i don't have any parents and they've been gone a while, so appreciate when they care as its only because they love and cherish you - even though you may feel smothered sometimes.

![]() ![]() ![]() For those who's parents are alive right now get real and drop the attitude. Tell them you love them and appreciate them and thank them for all they have done for you before they are gone. That's all they want to hear from you tbh. Get on with it and do it! |

I don't think you honestly appreciate what your parents went through until you're a parent yourself. I was given a fair amount of freedom as a child/ teenager, all my parents asked was I didn't lie to them which i try to instill inmy own son. He's still young so I don't worry at the moment but the thought of him wanting to be out of my control scares me senseless at the moment.

I'm protective of my daughter and I worry too much when she's out. Thankfully she's in touch through her phone (my mates kids don't bother replying to their parents) not that I'm constantly trying to contact her.
All I ask is, where she is going, who she will be with and what time does she think she will be back.

Occasionally. Not overprotective but obviously my mum wants to make sure I'm safe etc so usually is the one who orders taxis for me asks can I send her a text every couple of hours or so while I'm out so she knows I'm okay. She doesn't baby me though she lets me drink and buys drink for me and things like that. She lets me stay home alone sometimes also but not a full night, just till like maybe two at the latest

My father died when I was three and my mother didn't die but I lost her that day too, she didn't parent me. When I was a young child I had no rules, I could do what I wanted, go where I wanted, as long as I didn't have to make her do something that was that.

..protective or over-protective, Will..?..I guess that I was a little over-protected as a child as I was the youngest and the only girl with two older brothers but they also were quite protective as well at times when I got into teenage years...with my own boys, they kind of eased me into it as we went along and pretty much guided me in parenting, they taught me everything I know... they're pretty smart guys and I've always trusted their choices in life...one of the things that helped a lot I think when they were teenagers is that mostly, they and their friends hung out at our house so I could see that they were all ok and when they went out, they always said where they were going and who with etc..so all there was to say really was ...be safe guys...
