I'm not into the character assassination that goes on behind the scenes, that said. By all means, come up with flimsy excuses as to why Zainab can't be arsed to show up during any family crisis or big event but at least try and keep some consistency in the character and not make out that she's turned her back on them despite having no reason to do so.
Ditto with Zoe. It seems no one can leave the Square for 5 minutes and stay on good terms with their families. Totally unnecessary.
