Fighting the PC Culture
|
I dislike the word "multiculturalism" because it seems to be a back-handed way of saying your own culture isn't good enough. Nations throughout history have moved towards having a single culture and it seems obvious to me why: there is less confusion and it is easier to predict the behavior of their fellow countrymen. If multiculturalism is what you believe in, then you don't believe in anything, IMHO. It's the celebration of the destruction of your own country.

Culture thrives and evolves through contact with other cultures, or else it stagnates.

I',m all in favour of some multiculterism, it makes life more interesting, but the other cultures should not overwhelm the culture of the host country.

You could argue the exact same thing on a global scale; the international community itself is moving towards a singular culture which is that of the shared culture of all nations. The idea of a "culture" can be defined as locally or as globally as you like, but a society grows from learning and appreciating them in my opinion.

every culture needs a degree of cross fertilisation but not like we have endured and not if they arrive with a superstition cult attached
the word has been used to hide uncontrolled immigration and poor integration |

Every country is becoming more multi-cultural. Tunisia, for example, has bars and night club - the people dont even drink alcohol.
They're not doing it because the Tunisian culture isn't good enough, they're doing it because cultures from elsewhere are also good, people are always going to want to travel, and theres room to incorporate practices from everywhere Give it a few hundred years and I can't imagine culture will separate countries very much. Everywhere will be have a similar combination of policies and practices.. and people will gradually get less and less scared of a new mosque in town because we wont stay stupid forever.

I don't have a problem with multiculturalism. I have a problem with over-multiculturalism. I come from the East End of London. There's nothing left for indiginous Londoners there, unless you can afford a £multi-million apartment overlooking the Thames.

The UK was built on multiculturalism, we'd be worse off without it.
Culture is a constantly evolving thing and it's sad that anyone would want to stand in the way of that because of their own prejudices and fear of change. |

I think some clearly fear change a lot more than others with their overly religious, superstitious beliefs that have held them back centuries.

No,Multiculturalism is a good thing.Just not in the ridiculous numbers we've been enduring. It needs to be a steady flow not a monsoon. When white British are a minority in Britains capital city then that is too much multiculturalism.

What exactly, beyond morris dancing, does the British culture even mean any more without some form of influence from those we've invaded?

I’ve enjoyed growing up in a culturally diverse country and I think I’m correct in believing all progressive countries have multiculturalism, even Australia! I also think multiculturalism can have its problems. When large pockets of a country have segregated communities and those ethnic communities can’t speak our language or merge and embrace diversity, then it becomes regressive, not progressive. I also believe that such communities give people a platform for racism and racism is certainly regressive.

Why would anyone want to come here if they don't like the culture and way of life unless they are simply after the economic benefits created by that culture. Are their motives to simply reap the financial rewards and nothing else. If so why would we welcome them.
