That's frightening. I went to Drayton Manor when I was around 8/9 years old with the school, and some of the rides were pretty daunting at that age. I felt obliged to go on them because everyone else did but it was scary. It's worse knowing that, in my opinion, this seemed to be one of the safer ones. I remember going on in it during that very trip.

RIP. Poor girl

I think this is because should the ride capsize , they would be able to get to the surface.

This girl got up to swap places and fell out hitting her head on a rock sadly.

Are the "boats" not fixed to the belt pulling them along though?

yeah maybe but there would be signs saying no standing etc, you probably don't risk being chucked out if you are seated, its looks like an awful accident, with over excited kids on a ride presumably without adult supervision

Life's dangerous. When you think how many people go to amusement parks and divide it by the number of accidents they have... they're probably safer than they are in a car on a motorway.

That said, how horrible for the girl and her family.

No, it's a Rapids ride. The only time it will be fixed is on a chain lift.

We've been on this with our kids it does say no standing and there is a circular bar in the middle that you hold on to,the boat does bounce about a lot and I would think if she was standing to change places it would be quite easy to bounce out and hit whatever was around them, poor kid, they should have had a teacher on there with them really

I've been on the ride loads of times and it seemed safe and fine, there was no chance of me falling in if i was sitting down and holding onto the bar so it doesn't need seat belts..if you're standing up however (which it tells you not to) it might be a different story.

Evha Jannath's family pay tribute after her death at Drayton Manor theme park

Members of the 11-year-old's family describe her as a "little girl who was full of love" after she died on a river rapids ride.
