I dunno, I feel like Robron have at least had development to make the relationship feel somewhat believable, although admittedly I haven't seen huge amounts of Emmerdale to know just how it's been done.

At the beginning when they had an affair like Kate/Rana it was the same. No development, just a couple of random shags suddenly became "true love" then once Robert killed Katie it turned into a life of crime constantly keeping them together and some sick and twisted "I only do the things I do for you"

It only seems "developed" now because they've been dragging it on for nearly 4 years.

I also am here for it being almost a total surprise, because that's how it happens, sadly. 9 times out of 10 there's nothing anyone could say/do/notice to stop suicide happening.
