Gina Rio
Big Brother 14 (3rd Place) ![]() \I cannot express at how excited I was at managing to get Gina out of the process. I fully understand that had I not, she'd have glided through to the top 25 of the list. I know full well that my opinion of her is not one shared, with most probably still being upset about her timely departure... Shame. My main issue with Gina I guess is that she started the whole 'let's all support the token cunt craze!!!" (with Jim Davidson, Helen Wood, Katie Hopkins etc following suit). I don't mind a BB bitch and I don't mind a BB hero, but don't try and fool me into thinking she was the perfect blend of the two, because she wasn't. Perhaps I'm missing something, because I saw her as a spoilt bitch who felt it was necessary to throw the old racism card and have issues pretty much solely with the other women (again, a bit of a Helen trait). Which is where my next big issue with her arises; her hatred of Hazel. Let's get one thing straight (not that there's any need, it's completely unarguable): Hazel is good looking. Gina is not. Do I believe this is where Gina's animosity of Hazel began? Yup. Gina stroke me of the jealous type; she claimed to have all of the money in the world, but it didn't change her having the face of a chewed piece of toffee. So when a situation arose for Gina to score points against her (the Daley situation), she took it in her stride and continued to until Hazel's eviction. Despite not seeming to have an issue with Daley/his equal involvement in the situation (he might have been the one with the girlfriend but Hazel's a pretty female so why bother!!!), she went all out where Hazel was concerned with very clever and witty insults ("homewrecker", "whore", "skank" as well I believe?). Very well done, Gina . The BBOTS/eviction crowd agreed with her as well and made her out to be some martyr but by that point I was pretty much tired of BB shoving Gina down our throats. Who can forget the bees and honey task where, for reasons unknown, it was decided that Gina was better than everyone else and was made the Queen Bee for the day and could shock Hazel at her disposal. I get that this is through no fault of her own, but anyone who takes actual pleasure from causing physical pain to another human being (despite how much they may dislike them) is a bit sick and even maybe a tad sad in my book. She went through a 2 hour stage of deciding to hate Charlie at some point as well, but quickly changed her mind when Charlie didn't want to be Hazel's friend for a few days.Do I wish she'd have gone over Sallie? Yeah, only because Sallie had no chance with lasting more than the 3rd week and the series could have had some form of progression. I have no idea which arsewipe the majority are going to champion next, but at least I can sleep well knowing we have Gina Rio to thank. |

I mean Gina's completely fake and that's part of her appeal, whereas genuinely venomous people like Helen that you've listed... I don't really see the comparison?

I think the BIB fits more with Danielle (BB15), than Gina TBH. I don't get how Gina's nastiness was fake.

I think the point is just the principle of dickish housemates being praised and supported for their dickishness.
Also, I think Gina was "genuinely venomous". Last edited by Lostie!; 16-08-2015 at 03:25 PM. |

yes pretty much, whilst also being praised for going under some 'complete redemption' (which in actual reality never happened)

Using the same logic, Helen had redemption by being the #1 hate figure all series and coming out as the winner. Redemption should be about a personal progression, not simply an increase in popularity from others. Of course, it's all subjective. I know plenty of others feel Gina did improve as a person. I just never saw much of that. |

Hardly changes what position they left in (and I don't know why we're debating that the small chavy crowd is an indication)

I assumed he meant the ridiculously exaggerated posh persona was fake. If so, I absolutely agree (but, rather than finding that an appeal, it frustrated me all the more).

Comparing Gina to Helen
![]() I don't get the sudden surge of Gina dislike that is sweeping over the fanbase when we should be fortunate that she stayed in until the final because she was a great housemate and kept the series going along with Hazel and Charlie.

Nobody's comparing Gina to Helen. What's being compared is the trend of nasty housemates being supported. Nobody ever said they're exactly the same, but they're both (imo before anyone flips out) unpleasant and undeserving of the support they received.
As for "sudden", I'm sure anyone voicing a dislike of Gina here has always disliked her. |

I don't feel fortunate that Gina stayed until the end at all, she should have been an early boot rather than staying to the end and being a virus on an all round great series.

I admit, I liked Gina at the time. But looking back, she was unpleasant. Yes, she had her moments and I will admit to that, but the way she treated Jemima and Hazel in particular was awful.

The race card night was when I knew there was no going back for me with Gina. A complete and utter insult to actual racism (not to mention the spitefulness of branding someone a racist so publicly without even trying to be rational about it first), just so she could have a bit of drama and attention.

As Told by Troy

Okay since I missed the whole Gina Rio discussion because time zones, here are my assortment of thoughts in bullet fashion!
-I really don't see the comparisons to Jim Davidson, Helen, or Katie Hopkins at all. Like, Jim and Katie were entirely put into the house because of the awful things they've said and done, and Helen was put into the house because this is C5 BB and we're supposed to hate a prostitute, and then she turned out even worse than we imagined. Gina's VT was just like "lol I'm rich af" and I don't think that makes her a bad person or anything. And then once she was in the house she did have a rocky first few days, but she was able to recover pretty quickly and was actually pretty and nice and chill by the end of the week? I actually think that Gina's pretty unique in that she had her rough patch very early and then mellowed out more and more as time went on (the Hazel thing being the obvious exception.) Usually we're watching people become more and more agitated as the weeks pass on but Gina actually seemed to grow more comfortable with her environment each week. -re: Gina playing the racism card, tbf explicitly saying in front of a black girl that black men aren't your type but you go for mixed race guys and then telling her "you probably wouldn't go for white guys" is at least extremely racially insensitive. -"she claimed to have all of the money in the world, but it didn't change her having the face of a chewed piece of toffee." maybe this is just some British idiom I'm unfamiliar with, but am I supposed to believe that Gina isn't really rich because if she was then she would've had some plastic surgery on her face? I was confused by this. -re: Gina slut-shaming Hazel, it definitely wasn't a good look but all it really does is, like, push Gina out of my top 10 and into my top 20 or something. -re: the bee task, Gina and Hazel were both equally petty throughout the whole week. I think the difference is, like MB said, Gina's a complete cartoon character so it's expected from her. Hazel's whole shtick up until this point was that she was a resilient ice queen who didn't let anything (even a potential rape scenario) get her down! And then ****ing Gina of all people gets under her skin and she's reduced to lobbying makeup-related insults at her and telling her that she smelled. I like Gina and I dislike Hazel so obviously I ended up siding with Gina, but Hazel really was a bad arguer. -re: Primark vs. Tesco, I don't really have much to say since I'm American and both of those brands/companies/whatever mean absolutely nothing to me, but I will say that until BB14 I was under the impression that it was "PREE-mark" and I thought it was, like, Michael Kors or some ****. Apparently I was wrong.
