Either way, the fault lies with the prosecutors for not building a strong enough case. They needed to have counteracted anything that falls within plausible deniability.

2/3 had to say guilty - so 67 out of 100. To be honest, it's not really realistic, so long as the US is a two-party system. He could literally have walked in and shot someone himself and you wouldn't get enough Republican senators to convict.

That's why the second part isn't really true either... the case built was irrelevant. They could have given a load less evidence, or doubled the evidence they had, and every senator would have voted exactly the same way. They knew how they were going to vote before the trial started.

The case was strong as hell, they let the footage speak for itself. In a court of law, with a jury that wasn't stacked with Trump's allies, he would have been convicted. Blaming the prosecution for the fact that Republicans are corrupt af is just a ridiculous attempt to shift the blame from the fact that, twice now, Republicans have rejected irreputable evidence to protect their man.

Just some perspective. No president impeached has subsequently been convicted in the senate. The reason for that is because it is a political process with the majority voting along party lines. Trump was never going to be convicted, that's why i didn't watch a moment of the trial, there was no point.

Similarly, the general public had already made up their minds and wouldn't be swayed by the trial. The real test will come when Trump is tried in criminal and civil court
