I went into a chip shop about 40 miles from home, I asked for fish & chips with scraps, the woman behind the counter thought I was some alien. Fancy not knowing what scraps are in a chip shop.

we called them scatchings. They were the tiny pieces of batter which dripped off the fish as they were put into the hot fat.
They were scooped off the surface and drained. You could ask to have then put in with you fish and chips. They were free.

I'm from the North, and only like gravy on a roast dinner. We don't deep fry everything, just fish & chips as far as I know.

Yeah scraps are the crunchy little bits of batter from the fish. They taste great with your chips and plenty of salt & vinegar.

They are really bad for you though, but not as bad as tobacco....
