Possibly. In fact most likely.

However, they might not have...maybe the kid is homeschooled, or in a really posh school or whatever

It doesn't mean that it should be readily accepted though. That's the difference.

Even in a really posh school, they still swear

of course not.

I think it should optional to have a swear filter, but the default option is to have it on, therefore if someone is young they only way they're gonna see anything is if they themselves choose too

I have asked that before, apparently the filter is applied when the post is actually posted rather than when its being read or something, so it wouldnt be possible to have an optional filter

An underager simply should not have that choice, that choice should be made for them. I'd be appalled to hear youngsters using that language as part of their everyday conversation in the home: and parents who allow that to happen, allow their children to use such language as part of conversation, are nothing but chavvy scum and very poor parents, in my opinion.

Why on earth should it be acceptable during everyday conversation on a forum?

There have been occasions where the show has started at 8.

Theres no need for it online really, now and then yeah but going around saying it for the sake of it is a bit gay (or to use it for insults )

Or to be seen as, 'tough / big/ adult', which I think it may be so in a great many cases.

Or...perhaps their vocabulary is so limited they don't know any other adjectives ....

I don't see the need for swearing anyway, anywhere.(I know I am well in the minority though).

Would take a LOT of messing around with the sites coding. And its just not worth it for the sake of a few members wanting to swear :/

(Found it eventually)

I just think in order for you to join you shold have to enter your date of birth and anyone under 16's feed will automatically blovk out explicit words. Personally i love swearing and think it adds to an opinion.

I think finding swear words offensive is pretty arbitrary. After all it's easy to offend someone without using them (fat cow, ugly mess, etc.) so I find the censorship a little bit pointless. If anything you're giving them a heightened sense of ill-meaning by making them omg~illegal~.

This is of course ignoring the most common use of swear words - frustration, anger or emphasis - rather than the sole use of insults. I'm all for the likes of "I think Shaun is a massive dickhead" being infracted () but saying something along the lines of "I ****ing hate cricket" isn't offending anyone other than busybodies. I mean who can honestly say, hand-on-heart, on here, a Big Brother forum, that they're offended by the F word? You can say it's unnecessary (but then, most words are), but I think people who take offence think they should be offended, or are merely acting upon an already-established dislike of the offending member's profanity.

Possibly. But throwing about the C word for the hell of it.... that's beyond acceptable. I know you don't think so

I do, and I'm not alone in that thought.

Well, technically mods have nothing to do with it. We dont really get a say in most of the rules, just have to uphold them

Admin then.... whoever it is that makes the rules on here. The point is Vicky, if the OP has an issue with the rules: he should be raising it in the appropriate section and with the appropriate people: not arguing over it with other members. I think that's a fair comment.

Im actually asking other members point of view on the matter actually.

We all use this forum daily and therefor are entitled to an opinion on how the forum is run so this IS in the "appropriate" place.

Even Vicky stated that she liked the odd swear word and thats coming from a mod.

Is it possible to add a poll to this now? Would be a much quicker and easier way to see what people really think and would certainly stop you rambling on and on and on and on and on about something you probably dont really care about but feel like you should argue because lets face it pretty much every post i make you disagree with me.

Walk away from the thread.....Like an egyptian

I dont think there should be a filter, as this place is PRIMARILY for BB, however I can see why the filter is there

I believe I made my point in my first post and it was you who somehow needed further clarification from what was very clear in my first post, and so it continued. You didn't like my opinion and continued to not accept my view. I continued to put my view over.

You will see from several other replies in this thread: that I am not alone in my view: I am not some lone sole on this forum who feels that there are words that simply are unacceptable on a forum that allows youngsters aged 13 on it.

I will post where I want, as I am breaking no rules: and should not be expected to be told by you to walk away from the thread, simply because we have differing opinions.
