It was a great year in general. I remember the days of watching the old 4Music that used to be on E4 early morning before school (and was replaced in the summer with BB Live). The good old days

Yeah, chart music has never been great.

I hate the whole notion that modern music is crap. There's a ton of great music out there if you're actually prepared to look.

I do look, I'm not saying that - I just think the mainstream kind of music that gets radio play is horrible.

At least years ago, the 'mainstream music' wasn't bad - where as now, as you've kinda said you have to search for this kind of music.

Oh and she did a song about 2 years ago that was awesome too

Ah Man, I just properly listened to that song that's Number One right now, Goyte - Somebody I Used to Know.
It has a '06 vibe to it I don't think we've had a song like this as Number One in about 3 years. omg.

I think 2011 was a decent year for music. It picked itself up as 2009 and 2010 were terrible years for music.

Actually yes, fair point 2011 was a pretty decent year for music unlike 2010.

The whole boybands and Rhianna ruling it though is what dragged it down.
