I wouldn't even half mind if it wasn't for the fact that she's not even from the real Essex, she lives on the outskirts that borders with London. I only support HMs for their personality anyway and not because of regional pride.

I'm sick to death of hearing about poxy Essex too. It's no more spectacular than any other county in the country. In fact, there are far better counties than Essex. Far better.
Since TOWIE it seems to be seen as some sort of fame and money spinning exercise to play into that stereotype. It's a shame that people think acting like a bimbo is a way to become successful.

I whole heartedly agree.

I can't abide TOWIE, but I would be a liar if I denied that there are people like that here. However, people like that can be found in virtually every county. The whole 'I'm from Essex' being worn as a badge of honour as if Essex was something special gets on my whick too. I don't want to sh*t on my own doorstep, so to speak, but I have been to far better counties than my home county. We've been riddiculed and made the butt of peoples' jokes for decades and it's all because of idiots like Ashleigh and Amy Childs et al.

Is the county pride thing universal in the UK, or is it something completely manufactured like Jersey Shore and the Real Housewives shows have done in the US? I tried to watch TOWIE once, think I made it through about 4 minutes, but it seems like just another forced gimmick created where one never existed.

I know there's always a regional component for any reality show contestant, but it always seems more pronounced in BBUK discussions.

Depends on the person. I personally couldn't give a fig where anyone comes from in the UK (or elsewhere, for that matter), but there are people here in the UK who do go in for all of that regional pride and snobbery. My pet hate is the North/South divide. I love the North, but the stuff some (I'm not saying all) Northerners say about the South really gets on my tits. The majority of Southerners can't relate to half the stereotypes some Northerners come out with about us and I've yet to meet anyone from the North say anything like it while down South. Same goes to the idiots down here who have prejudiced opinions about Northerners. Although, I will say, I do think Northerners are more into the whole North/South divide thing than Southerners are. The majority of us don't give a toss about it.

I dont dislike her but she's not the best role model for the county, some of the things she does make me laugh though lol

People thinking that countries/county's are voting for contestants that come from those areas are just silly. Why would you want to vote for somebody because they came from the area where you live?

It happens. A fine example is on TXF final night they have video links to the contestants hometown with a load of people there supporting them doing it for their town/city man!!

But it doesn't affect the outcome at all.

Shievonna was from London, MASSIVE CITY and Conor was from Derry, not as big as London.

etc. etc.

Arron was from Manchester and he was a bellend.

Louise was from Manchester and she was a boring bint.

I think the majority of Essex hate their stereotype and will vote against her to be honest
