Assumed from the threads on here earlier that he'd pursued a relationship with Ellie already but christ.. he was pretty much forced to take part. He's in a pretty horrible position. Either go ahead with some fake romance he had no intention of getting in and doesn't want, or risk turning her down and being involved in loads of drama within a couple of days.

he has to show some back bone or he will crumble and look bad - I see what you are saying but everyone has to take responsibility. we are only a few days in.
