Oddly my friend brought this up to a group of us weeks ago and we had a bit of a drunken debate over it

I always stand... it's just as efficient and more comfortable than staying down in a sitting position over the toilet while wiping. Just bend a bit and lift the leg

Also I flush down as it emerges ie push it out as I push on the flush handle. It minimizes any stink and the bowl is clean as I reach to wipe. Simple if a little acrobatic.
