its nice to have some audible feedback, but by now, they should know what sounds, frequencies and decibel levels freak animals out the most and avoid them. There certainly isn't any need for sonic boom level bangs like some of them are close to.

Ages ago, they downgraded things like bangers so they didn't blow your hand off if you were holding one when it went off, but the whole sector seemed to become deregulated and the floodgates opened with some serious **** on the market. We need to return to tight regulation and standards

Not really much of a problem where I live but we do have regular army training drills as there are 2 forts nearby so sometimes there's lots of gunshots, doesn't really bother the dog and cat much though

It scares my cats so much, I think dogs are affected worse though, it's so hard to help them relax when they're so terrified.

My dogs growing up were a nightmare. I used to lock them in my room with me, black out the windows and have my music on loud. They were absolutely petrified. My cat today barely notices them. He may lift his head off a cushion if there is a particularly loud bang, but he soon rests it back down again.

I sympathise with the op, but fireworks are such a part of our history/tradition in this country, that it's unrealistic to suggest they should be banned. We just have to take better care of our pets for a few nights each year, which shouldn't be that much of a chore.

I just see on Twitter that a guide dog was rooted to the spot in fear because of fireworks.

I agree they should be banned. Unnecessary things tbh

Fireworks should only be used at sanctioned public events really. It's so annoying to be constantly bothered by loud and underwhelming fireworks when every area could just have one event and that's it.

There's more and more calls for private firework use to be banned every year so hopefully it'll lead into action at some point.

My Cat gets scared when the Fireworks go off.

For me personally though I'm not that bothered about Fireworks either way, I just don't like seeing my Cat be frightened.

To be fair, none of my pets have ever been arsed about fireworks . As a teen I took our little dog out for a walk on fireworks night and some old feller was giving me abuse about how scared she would be, but she was having a great ol' time . She did go totally deaf in her old age though, so maybe she was always half deaf?

When I grew up we built our own bonfires on the nearest patch of grass..as kids we went round houses knocking on doors asking for stuff for the bonfire after school.

Everyone knew it was ok cause on the night it was organised and not to big...but it had to be bigger than croft roads down the hill....

So yeah, as a 12-13yr old in 1983..That's what we did.

We spent night after night doing that...all congregating as kids round the bonfire each night as it grew bigger and bigger...who needed play parks that month..the memories of clambering about on the build as it grew, spending night after night for a month competing with the kids down the hill..

Good memories, spoiled by some wide **** deciding to make some cash out this celebration and making it all about snap crackle and ****ing pop.

Take the piss all you want..

Maybe it was earlier but I had my own seat up the top of the bonfire, so I could look out for the croft road lot and any potential sabotage.

Why did you completely change the content of this post 1 hour and 11 minutes later?

Admittedly in hindsight it was maybe ruined and stopped by people lighting the opponents fires before the 5th...but that's another story.

We didn't need plastic witches masks in the shop to entice us to celebrate... all our parents needed was a basin full of water and enough apples for all the kids in attendence.
