I get universal credit and Im not going to be accused of being lazy when i work from 6 in the morning til 4 in the afternoon! The reason we are entitled is because we have 3 kids and my wife is a full time mum who cant work at the moment due to our youngest only being 10 months. When he is 2 she is to return to work and probably our universal credit will stop

Im not bothered if they put it up or not as its a reasonable amount anyway. As long as they dont make cuts and deductions

There are some properly ignorant arseholes on here
Unfortunately there are many people that abuse the benefits system alongside genuine people.

If Labour had been in power Universal Credit would have been scrapped or radically changed as to its more cruel time waiting and complicated claiming procedure.

So a likely fairer, more compassionate and more generous system would have been forthcoming.

Yes, however, I believe if Labour had been in power with universal credit not yet reformed, this extra would have been in place through the pandemic and beyond.

If they hadn't done it, they'd have been crucified hour after hour, day after day, week after week and even month after month.
On TV media, so called newspapers and the harder line Con supporters too.

Rightly so too, because had Labour been in power and haggled like street market traders, like this government is, over this £20, I'd have joined in the criticism of them not doing it and keeping it in place too.

You can't say that with any fact.
That's pathetic.

Labour party MPs and it's members would never have tolerated just a £6 increase

Unlike the harder line Con supporters who would be the ones more likely giving nothing possibly.
Especially since their government is the one threatening to take away the extra not Labour.

I know my Party and the bulk of Labour MPs and party members would never allow a paltry sum like £6 to have only been added.

I certainly wouldn't so I can say it easily.

It wouldn't have happened as you indicated because the membership and the bulk of Labour MPs and Party members such as myself, would be determined in a crisis to want to ensure help was solidly in place to build up the lower paid and more vulnerable, not try to bring them down further.

In fact however, no other Party but the present government, would be even thinking of taking away this extra payment at the present time.

It's likely an immaterial issue anyhow as this government is I'd say, going to be shamed again by Labour and all other Parties to do another of their so called 'listening u turns'.
After creating anxieties to those who need the certainty this extra would continue.
