Thinking you’ve bumped into someone you know but not being able to go up to them and say hi because you can’t be 100% sure it’s them or someone who just looks the spit of them.

ITVX’s obsession with adverts. They can die by it.

People insisting on driving after a night out.

Being under the influence and driving do not go well together at all. Get a taxi. Doesn’t matter if you’re the most sober one in the group or you think you have fairly high tolerance. It’s not just your own life you’re putting at risk but other people’s.

Yes, in supermarkets, people who block the aisles with their slow walking.

The fact that no-one seems to know how to mow the lawn these days (since I’ve clearly got the time to be remembering all these pet peeves today). I’ve genuinely been doing it since I was 6 so it’s jarring to me when people they don’t see the appeal in it or find it just a little bit fun.

“I just assumed.”

When it comes to how many photocopies to make or something, fine. But not when it comes to people and their capabilities or strength of character. You don’t necessarily know that at all. No-one has to prove anything to you in any case (unless they actually do) but if it’s not too personal on a general level, you can ask. Going with blind assumptions when you don’t know the person that well isn’t going to work.

People who misuse and overuse the word “harassment”. Any little difference in opinion now and the person’s allegedly being harassed.

Long waits. I’ve spent enough of my life waiting around for other people and at this point I’m actually really impatient. I seem calm about it on the outside because I’m just naturally quite a reserved person but I actually a pissed off in those situations.

It definitely feels commonplace to say it on the Internet.

Having to shop around to find nice-flavoured Lambrini (cherry, strawberry). Somewhere on the outskirts of Liverpool (Halewood) is partially the birthplace of all these Lam-perries so you can get what you want there but anywhere else and you’re going to have to look. I used to make do with the standard guff on a Friday night and a cheap candle from Tesco but these days if I’m going to drink cider or perry I want to appease my sweet tooth. I get enough bitterness with beer (which is what I drink most anyway).

People turning up too early and then complaining about time being wasted when that’s really on their own bat. Unless it’s formal, you’re better off being 10 minutes late than 15/20!minutes early. The person you’re meeting might’ve had to nip to the bank and Tesco and bank on making it for you just in time. So being stupidly early is not their problem. They didn’t ask you to be that early. You chose to waste a quarter of an hour hanging around just for the sake of it.

The most I’ll ask is that you’re on time. I’m not your boss so I don’t need or even want you turning up overly early and making me rush to get to you 20 minutes in advance at the last minute. Get yourself a coffee or have a cigarette/long vape if you’ve got those extra minutes to kill. I’m sticking closer to the time we agreed, bearing in mind that there’s a difference between being punctual and taking the merry-larker piss. I say I err more on the side of quiet impatience these days but the context is a little different.

A certain category of people who have this mindset that no one's ever ill and that people who say they feel ill are either exaggerating or lying completely.

People not understanding the fact that people who are socially introverted are actually comfortable doing things alone. They don’t need to be surrounded by people to go to Tesco or have a good time in their rooms reading with a lit candle (reading’s supposed to be quite a solitary activity anyway). Different people have different needs, wants and preferences. That you’d be lonely or feel awkward slipping to the pub for a quiet pint/glass alone doesn’t mean someone else would. They have mates, and quite meaningful friendships at that. Everything just doesn’t have to be a social motive for them but that’s something that people who lack the capability to enjoy their own company will never understand.

I’m putting on a blue denim jacket, black jeans and shooting to Spoons for some San Miguel and a bite to eat, barely even looking you in the eye. Of course you’re not invited. Unless I want company.

Not to say you shouldn’t link up with your mates as often as is comfortable for you and that you shouldn’t cultivate those connections across the board (that’s important). That’s not what I mean. It’s just about knowing that it’s not every time that a more reticent/ambiverted person desperately needs to be around other people to do what they want to do. No-one’s an island but no-one has two heads either (allowances made for Siamese twins).

Anti-drugs hypocrisy (as a general note).

Cannabis as a plant is varied and packed with all sorts of benefits (from various non-psychoactive cannabinoids, like CBN and CBD, to actual THC, like it or not) and ketamine and psychedelics likewise (when they’re done safely) and alternative treatments for severe, treatment-resistant depression and OCD and other mental health issues. But some people continue to demonise them while (especially in this Britain) one of the greatest poisons of all, alcohol, continues to be glorified. I’m far from teetotal but the thing is I’m not a hypocrite either. Alcohol is one of the most destructive drugs in the world (ethanol is literally poison, no matter how nicely packaged) and there’s no medical benefit to be gleaned from it beyond a bit of red wine at dinner or a sprinkling of beer, but it gets a free pass in places like the UK because it just happens to be the first drug that was socially accepted, and people expect you to drink to your liver’s discontent every weekend and all Christmas. But if you’re pro-alcohol and anti-weed/mushrooms, something in the reasoning’s flawed and very wrong. Especially if you expect people to not see you as a homeless alkie with alcoholic paranoia/hallucinosis and advanced cirrhosis lying in a vodka-den but can’t hear sense about some of these other substances without assuming that the person’s a stoner-bum who lies in a den of green iniquity and doesn’t accomplish anything for themselves all day. If they’re like that, chances are it won’t be the weed.

I rarely agree with what you say, and i know you rarely agree with what i say, but you are absolutely spot on in that post.

I've been watching quite a bit of telly over Christmas, films and tv shows old and new, and one thing that is a constant is alcohol. It's so unbelievably normalised in our every day lives, yet offers no health benefits whatsoever. It's bad for you mentally and physically. And it's massively overrated too.

I don't watch modern soaps, only classic Eastenders, but my God, alcohol is consumed 24/7. Any scenario and every scenario calls for a drink, it's crazy really.

There was a show called People Just Do Nothing, quite good tbh, and appealing for people of my age (mid 30's). Anyway, a character on there takes drugs all the time, it's his character's make up, yet he's offered a drink and says "oh nah i don't touch that stuff, messes with your head" Excellent line, and much truer than we've been conditioned to believe.
