People not understanding the fact that people who are socially introverted are actually comfortable doing things alone. They don’t need to be surrounded by people to go to Tesco or have a good time in their rooms reading with a lit candle (reading’s supposed to be quite a solitary activity anyway). Different people have different needs, wants and preferences. That you’d be lonely or feel awkward slipping to the pub for a quiet pint/glass alone doesn’t mean someone else would. They have mates, and quite meaningful friendships at that. Everything just doesn’t have to be a social motive for them but that’s something that people who lack the capability to enjoy their own company will never understand.

I’m putting on a blue denim jacket, black jeans and shooting to Spoons for some San Miguel and a bite to eat, barely even looking you in the eye. Of course you’re not invited. Unless I want company.

Not to say you shouldn’t link up with your mates as often as is comfortable for you and that you shouldn’t cultivate those connections across the board (that’s important). That’s not what I mean. It’s just about knowing that it’s not every time that a more reticent/ambiverted person desperately needs to be around other people to do what they want to do. No-one’s an island but no-one has two heads either (allowances made for Siamese twins).

Sounds like you have a toxic boss.
