It depends which type of family occasion is.
Of course it's annoying to invite someone who doesn't talk.
But it never happened to my parties as they are always such a big success...especially when my parents are on holidays !

I wasn't drinking socially until I was 17, before that it was just a glass of wine at Christmas, and got drunk for the first time at home when I was 15 - my mum dealt with me then!

I'd say do what you feel comfortable with, if you want a drink or two then that's fine as long as someone makes sure you don't get up to anything untoward. I wasn't interested in that sort of stuff at 14, I wouldn't have handled certain social situations either sober or drunk!

i'm 14 too and it is hard to say no especially to your friends but if they were really your friends then they'd respect your decision that you have a boyfriend and you don't want to drink or cheat on your boyfriend and even if they do fall out with you they won't hold it against you for long i'm sure of it so go to the party, have a good time and if you friends give you grief maybe you should just go stand with some kids with a head in a book for an hour or so
