And I don't think its right to kill someone..like no-one deserves for their life to be ended..that kinda contridicts what I just sai but ah well.
"If someone slaps your right cheek, let 'em slap your left too"
But do you not think that they should have their life taken for taking another life? They should have to go through with what others went through? And what about terrorists? They kill thousands of people, surely they deserve to be killed
No, two wrongs don't make a right. It might seem alright to kill someone cos they killed someone, but its a bit hypocritical don't you think ?
And yeah terrorists kill loads of people, but locking them up in a cell is like taking away their rights and all..like it gets to them..they have nothing to else to do other than play xbox etc. all day, so they think about what they done and they can't get away from it..it eats them up. I think it's a much bigger punishment for them to have to face up to what they done.
I think it all comes back to the argument about prisons and what is in them. If someone is jailed for murder they should have all human rights taken away from them, if they are not killed. I do agree about the 2 wrongs make a right, but i think that people are getting too used to murders now. Every day on the news we hear about a murder and if these murderers were kiled, dont you think that other people who plan to murder would then think twice if they knew it was their own life they were sacrificing?

Oh gosh I just did this in a debating lesson, if I find my facts I will let you know them.

Off the top of my head I believe it costs millions of tax payers money to house these murders in prison... Millions which could go to a better Education/Healthy system. Whereas the injection drug costs about £25. I know its horrible putting a price on someone's life, but why should we waste innocent peoples money on keeping murderers alive. I think it should be brought back but only used in extreme circumstances, like the Baby P situation, the parents should be considered for the penalty.

But I also believe that people should just sit their life in prison and pay for what they have done. But this means bringing in less luxuries to prisons, like no tv, no comfy beds, no nice meals. Have them live life basically, stop spending so much money. And also make the sentences longer, when people are locked up for life, actually make it life! Not 25 years... or even less.

I totally agree with you fom! These people need to learn that murder is not acceptable! We are wasting Millions each year, keeping someone alive, who has taken another persons life. i think it is sick how they are just kept in prison. I know that many people would disagree with this, but Murder, Rape and torture, should be punished with Death

Yeah they would probaly think twice, but I still don't think it's morally right.

Make murderers suffer and live with what they've done, just stick them in a big pit with eachother or something and just leave them to rot away and die without costing us a penny

But we have more serious matters at hand to debate, One night in Paris?!

Oh dear

1. That would make US ALL mass murderers

2. There are too many people wrongly convicted, the chance of someone innocent being killed is too great

3. This isnt a simple black and white world...Good/Evil with no grey areas...theres a little bit more to it than that

4. People arent born evil....

You can't be made to have your brain functioning differently e.g. language not processing in the right place. Psychopaths have natural brain abnormalities, you can't learn abnormalities.

this
1. makes no sense,
2 doesn't back up your point
3 is actually wrong because learning new things PHYSICALLY changes the brain so "You can't be made to have your brain functioning differently" ...( lol) is wrong

I disagree.

Psychopaths aren't made. Infact I think it was proven that psychopathic tendencies are largely inherited from family members and you're more likely to pass on these tendencies if you have children yourself.

And brain abnormalities aside, you'll find most psychopaths have very disturbed/abusive upbringings that determine whether they go on to commit horrendous crimes against people...its not just a case of being born with that set of brain abnormalities...I've been to a few lectures on psychopaths...and what Ange said

I disagree and have studied criminal behaviour quite a bit...you dont inherit a psychopath gene...its part brain abnormality of course but experience especially in childhood) plays a large part in moulding the behaviour of someone in later life

Okay, I agree with you in the fact that experiences in childhood could make you into a psychopath but psychopathic tendencies are past on from genes.

A predisposition maybe thats all. And the brain abnormalities found in psychopaths could be formed from experience as Ange said, brain chemistry/makeup is constantly changing neurons connecting, disconnecting and stuff. But for sure without the experience there will be no psychopathic killer...

It does back up my point. Psychopaths have brain abnormalities, and abnormalities are not made, they are either there or they're not.

Psychopaths process their language differently, instead of being processed in the left or right hemisphere (I've forgotten which) its processed in both hemispheres. Their brain structure is different, just as it is with gay people. Its something that is there from birth, not something that can be changed over time.

Some psychopaths are very normal people, had a great upbringing etc, good circle of friends. Some also are very charming, rarely commit any crimes but when they do its random acts of violence and usually quite bad. Google The Kray Twins if you don't know about them.

But in actual fact we're both right. There are three types of psychopaths:

Primary psychopaths- ones who appear normal but have different brain structures, basically what I've already said

Secondary psychopaths- ones who learn violent behaviour

Dyssocial psychopaths- ones who commit crimes due to severe emotional problems

I'm not doubting that some of it is nurture at all, I'm just saying some are born that way. Also some people think that personality traits are inherited so it could have a party to play in secondary and dyssocial psychopaths but thats open to debate.

And ange, a degree doesn't scare me, its something I'm starting myself in September/October in Psychology & Criminology so its something I'm interested in so I won't run off scared

You might change your opinion when you start it mate. The brain structure isnt fixed at birth. Most criminal psychopaths have had disturbed childhood/abnormal relationships with parent/s...Its on the psychological profiling criteria list thingy
