https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2021/0...-central-bank/

Netherlands: The Dutch economy will bounce back from the coronavirus crisis ‘strongly and smoothly’, the Dutch central bank says in its new economic forecast.

This year, the economy is set to grow 3%, to be followed by 3.7% in 2022, the central bank said. By 2023, it will normalise again, showing growth of an estimated 1.9%. The bank is basing its forecasts on the vaccination programme which is leading to measures to limit contacts between people being phased out.

This, the bank said, means consumer confidence will recover on a wide scale, driven partially by low unemployment. Unemployment will, however, rise from 3.6% this year to 4.5% in 2022 as more people join the labour market looking for work.

Earlier forecasts were less optimistic about the growth and recovery. ‘But the economy’s ability to adapt would appear to be greater than thought, and world trade is also performing better than expected,’ director Olaf Sleijpen told broadcaster NOS.

The Dutch economy has performed better than the EU general, contracting by 3.4%, compared with a eurozone’s 5.1% in the first three months of this year. This is partly due to the fact that the Dutch economy is not as reliant on tourism as that of Spain or France.

House prices too are contributing to the growth, and the central bank expects them to rise by 10% this year, followed by 5.5% in 2022 and 3.5% in 2023.

Next government

The central bank notes that public finances are under control and austerity measures or higher taxes are not necessary at the moment.

This means the next government, Sleijpen said, must focus on structural issues which were problems before the pandemic, such as the shift away from natural gas and bottlenecks in the housing and labour market.

Deaths are so small that any increase from 1 would be a ridiculous increase, looks like hospitilisations / ventilators are best way of measuring, looks to be up 20% week on week

Personally I think they should have delayed the last step. The weathers been lovely for pub gardens and friends gardens etc. Not enough had been vaccined yet. Numbers are flying a lot higher than they thought they would be

Postponing the lifting of lockdown will help keep the numbers as low as possible.. they may still rise as they are doing now but they’d go through the roof if we lift the lockdown restrictions.

percentage increases look bad because the numbers are pretty small. Given that so many of the population are not fully vaccinated we are doing pretty well because this is the most restrictions have been removed in 16 months. I think we should continue a gradual removal of restrictions while vaccinating like crazy.

One of the most misleading figues is the % of adults vaccinated, because young teenagers are not included in that and are capable of spreading covid like wildfire

A delay is a good idea.
Gives us the chance to finish vaccinations.

[Lifting of restrictions to be delayed by
four weeks until 19 July - PM
As expected, Boris Johnson has announced the
21 June reopening date is to be pushed back,
saying we have not met all four tests for
proceeding with the original date.

The new date is now expected to be 19 July,
with a review period after two weeks.
He says the link between cases and
hospitalisations has been "weakened" but not
completely severed, so more time must
be given to get more people jabs.

Delaying the date will allow more time for
people to be given jabs given the dangers
of the Delta variant, the PM says.

Over-40s will only have to wait eight weeks
rather than 12 weeks for their second jab
, he says,
while 23 and 24-year-olds will start to be offered
a vaccine from tomorrow.

And he has brought forward the commitment
to offer every adult a jab from the end of July to 19 July.]

it's a settling phase that needs to happen from here on in. People have to get used to the idea that we need to live with the virus and that's going to take time. The fixation on daily figures has to stop. There should be alerts in hotspots so that people can be more cautious in what they do, but we need to stop with all the fear mongering headlines
