You know what politicians are? Racing drivers have layers of clear polythene over their visors which they peel away as they become soiled. That's what politicians are.

I bet New Labour really was dead until Ed got a bollocking by Malcolm Tucker.

Typical politician. He has said nothing of any meaning or significance through the duration of his speech. I feel like I have no reason to vote Cameron and Clegg out now.

Not unless the British public also have a death wish. All those years in power and Labour left the country in an unholy mess - that's not a legacy to be proud of, or wish to have revisited on our country. Labour has the EX factor alright.

He's smarter and more charismatic than those two and politics is only a beauty contest these days.

Britain is in a debt bind like most of the world. Governments have little or nothing to do with running the country. Governments are window dressing, and whichever one takes your fancy gets your vote.

I would say he was on about level pegging with them, charisma-wise. Smarter? That remains to be seen, but the least you can say about Cameron and Clegg is that they are no spinning the disaster that was New Labour into some sort of slightly faltering success story. Ed screwed up. He is too afraid of his critics in the opposition and the national press to give the Labour party a purpose again. So he has opted to let the party remain as interchangeable with the opposition as it has been since 1994.

It's all well and good to take rhetorical potshots at bankers, but as long as he is content to stick with a system with New Labour maintained engendered, which allowed the bankers to get so above their station in the first place, they are just words and nothing else.

Lets not go down that road. Preventing David Miliband from being made Labour leader it probably the best thing the unions have done in years.

Yep. I'd rather shoo them all oout the door than heve such obscene inequality. I hate bankers, they are the scum of the earth and should be universally demonised.

I hate the way Sky News will tell their audience what to make of this speech, there is too much editorial comment from them, the news is all about them, Kay Burley or that fat bloke who sounds like he's got chronic indigestion.

Because Ed is the Unions' bitch. They say "jump", he says "how high?".

Slightly OT, those with twitter go follow Domjoly's rants about Ed - they're hilarious.

David is an unwavering neo-Blairite who supported the Iraq War, Labour's draconian anti-terror laws and the introduction of student top-up fees.

Here is his voting record
http://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/dav...s#votingrecord

He was also involved in the expenses scandal. He was every bit a part of the problem that New Labour created. He would have been a terrible choice of leader imho.

Did you follow Sky's report when they announced his victory? They used the phrase union stooge so many times it was clear their intention was to firmly plant this notion in viewers' minds. And for many people who don't closely follow politics and didn't see their game, I'm sure they suceeded in poisoning people against him before he even got started.

Well the majority of MP's supported the Iraq War, David at least voted for an investigation into the war, unlike Ed who was strongly against it according to his voting record . He also supported Labours terrorism laws as well.

Ed will not be a credible oppostion leader imo, he'll lurch the party to the left, which will probably lead to most centrist voters (which I'd imagine most of the country are) losing faith in the party, and he doesnt seem to want to acknowledge the necessity of spending cuts and a strong private sector unlike his brother.

David would have been a more mature and respectable opposition leader/possible Prime Minister if you ask me.

Don't assume that all people are as gullible as the majority of the Labour demographic. Some of us actually make our own minds up about politicians, and there is no need to insult those who don't share your rose coloured view of this car crash of a political party by intimating they are brainwashed sheep who have no opinions of their own.

It's funny you should use the exact same phrase union stooge as if prompted by Sky. Sky's message is designed to inform soft-minded sheeple.
