From the opinion of someone who highly respects but doesn't get the insane hype of both artists let me say that GaGa IS a more than worthy hier to Madge's throne and officialy or not took it a long, long time ago [Paparazzi was the breakthrough for me, as it was for many other people who valued the songwrititng over the hype. It is the best pop tune of the noughties, IMO].

Only a good 10 years ago a certain Britney Spears took the stage and people were calling her the 'Queen Of Pop'... Just a cycle which will take its toll on Gaga. Madonna will always be the Queen Of Pop. Like MJ for the males.

Britney = Has all songs written for her. Basically does as her producer says.

Lady Gaga = Writes most if not all of her songs. Dictates to her management what she wants.

Absoloute bullshit. You are talking purely about the musical instrumentation and removing it from any vocal or visual star power in which case of course all of GaGa's sound patches can be replicated on Roland JP800 and SH-201's - the same sort of engines that led to the late 90's trance boom. But so can a lot of Madonnas sounds. Trust me. I have those two synthesizers and the sounds the both of them have come up with in the last decade are very, very easy to create. But then again I'n not Lady GaGa or Madonna.
