JF and Kizzy. I have never seen a black person say it is cool for their White friend to use the word.

The only possible exception is if yOu was all in a car rapping along to a tune, but even then my White friends usually leave the word out.

No what im getting at is if a white person got into trouble off The Police for saying ******,the white person could lie and say that there black friend doesn't mind them using the word.

Although I doubt they would avoid trouble lol.

Yeah. I don't think she was racist which some did. I just think she lived a fairly sheltered lifestyle where she had no idea how much offense she caused saying it.

I think it's fine to use "offensive" words if it's in a lighthearted way and no offense is meant. I think it takes the stigma away from the word and gives it less power. I personally don't let words bother me... they're just words; it's the intention that matters.

I'd never use that word, I think it's a nasty word, even if these days some people use it in a 'positive' sense. In a way using language like that, or other previously derogatory words, it's a bit like opening up Pandora's box.

I'm not really interested in the colour of a persons skin and whether I can or can't use the word with some people or others. Like Niamh seems to be saying, it's best just to avoid the whole issue in my opinion and get on with getting to know the person underneath.

A naive idiot? Charming and smart, you're quite the catch. By using the word privilege, you are straight away insinuating through your use of language, that it is white people"allowing" black people to use the word.

It isn't, as white people we have no business using it. Black people aren't restricted by those same rules.
