If Arron and Conor are racist towards Deana, lets see how they behave towards Shivonne and Adam, that would prove it dont you think? Maybe they just don't like Deana for whatever reason.

Theres no need to analyse it whatsoever and for anyone to get uppity and offended on anyone elses behalf is patronising and a bit prejudice in itself. Last edited by billy123; 19-06-2012 at 02:01 PM. |

it's not racist to be happy to see a black f1 driver just l9ke it's not sexist to celebrate seeing a woman Chinese astronaut. obviously in a perfect world we wouldn't need to celebrate these things, but we don't live in a perfect world.
As i was saying before the word racist has lost all meaning now because people use it in wacky ways, people don't even know what it means any more.

You're only being racist if your intent is to be offensive, in the case of Emily Parr, she wasn't.
Impossible to accuse Arron or Conor of actually being racist, unless they bring her race up in a derogatory way. |

Your Result
Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for European American compared to African American. The interpretation is described as 'automatic preference for European American' if you responded faster when European American faces and Good words were classified with the same key than when African American faces and Good words were classified with the same key. Depending on the magnitude of your result, yo interesting, tyvm Kizzy! Last edited by fruit_cake; 19-06-2012 at 03:11 PM. |

I don't think Conor and Arron are racists.
Charlie Drummond from BB10 however is a completely different story as on launch night he completely blanked Benazir, hated Siavash before Siavash even done anything wrong, and he just never seemed to like any ethnic person. Last edited by Mystic Mock; 19-06-2012 at 10:11 PM. |

There's nothing I can add that hasn't already been said but I agree with the general idea that whoever brings up the race card for this is either taking the piss or genuinely needs to stop posting on here and get an education.
If you're on a game show then it is your duty to judge people based on their personality. If people don't like Deana then perhaps it's because of her personality rather than the colour of their skin. The lot of them are there to judge personalities and to try and defend your favourite housemate with an incredibly weak and stupid argument then you know something's wrong.

The thing that grates me is the fact that some people on here think they can use the race card to defend Deana. I'm actually really struggling to get my head around it all.

Racism can have many layers and it can be hard to spot at first sight, a person could make a joke about someone else's race but so subtle nobody notices it, in this BB house I dont really think there's any sort of racism against the minorities, I just think Arron, Conor and Luke S want Deana out cos she's an easy target.

Why is everyone saying racism needs to be "intended" for it to be racism?
This is not true at all. |

I don't think it needs to be "intended", to be racist but I do think that being intentionally racist is far worse than someone using a racist term through ignorance.

It does need to be intended. There are two types of racism: (1) out of sheer ignorance and stupidity, buying into incredibly weak ideas and stereotypes without knowing the facts and (2) knowing the facts yet continuing to look down on a particular race or more.

Some people on here have made Jew jokes to me and I've laughed, because I know them, and I know that the intention was for me to laugh. And I did laugh because they were funny and meant in fun. If someone I don't really know makes Jew jokes, it's hard to tell whether their intention is to be funny or unkind. You have to know someone well before you can take liberties with them. However, it's not for someone else to say that something is offensive and to be outraged on another person's behalf if the person on the receiving end is not insulted and well able to speak for themselves.
