Palpatine coming back was BS, it basically pissed in the face of everything the six films were trying to achieve.
And why is Force healing suddenly a thing? Anakin basically killed his wife and a bunch of kids, and condemned himself to spend the rest of his life limbless and in a robot suit so he could help Padme ... but suddenly Rey and Ken can just do it? Buuulllthsssiiit

This was great! Not as bad as the critics say and it’s not the worst star wars film some are saying. It was great watching it in 4DX as well.

Oh it's not the worst Star Wars, certainly. If you cut out the Telltale Games Leia and the nonsensical force twincest kiss at the end it's an OK watch - far better than Episode VIII at the very least. I just think it (the entire VII - IX trilogy) could have been something so much better

My only complaint would be that they crammed a lot of stuff in without giving much explanation but I blame that on TLJ for having a pointless plot that stalled the storytelling.

Actually, you're right - I myself can read pretty quickly, and it sometimes "processes" at a glance, so I agree that one line isn't enough, and someone could easily see something they don't want to before watching the movie

I watched it again on TV.
There is a lot is entertaining up to a point, but it is mainly the final battle and scenes that let it down. They could have come up with something better than that. Spoiler: The new force healing power didn't seem to make sense to me. Spoiler: They should have stuck with Rose, and given her a bigger role, rather than introducing the new characters, cause it definitely looked like as snub. I liked some of it though. I don't think any of the new Star Wars films have actually worked all the way through. Last edited by James; 05-05-2020 at 12:10 AM. |

The worst part will forever be
Spoiler: Literally wrecked the whole film. Worse than Jar Jar or the time that Anakin's chat up game involved telling Padme about getting sand in his arse crack. |

Regarding the resurrection, I believe that was down to the whole "force twin" thing (supposed to be like once-in-a-thousand-years sort of rare) and that was the only reason it was possible.
This may also apply to other powers that they shared, like passing physical objects. Last edited by user104658; 06-05-2020 at 05:56 PM. |

I watched it on Monday, it was dreadful and utterly amateurish and the way they implemented Carrie Fisher was just disrespectful. They should have had more faith in their original direction since it's obvious they likely threw out their original plan for the third film in the trilogy when fans got pissy that women existed in The Last Jedi.
The sad attempts at fanservice moments were utterly cringeworthy too. It's just... remarkable how bad this film was. |

The Carrie Fisher stuff was borderline creepy.
It didn't even feel like Leia. I don't know how much sense this'll make, but Leia never just "stands and talks". She was always interacting with her surroundings and the other people in the scene. Her death wasn't even explained. She's not old enough to die of old age without having been ill, and unless I've forgotten something she wasn't meant to be sick or anything? The way the character told Rey "sorry, she's gone" sounded as if she'd just gone to another planet or something. Is there any need for that? Admiral Holdo and Finn's woman were just crappy characters, their gender didn't come into it. People didn't care that Rey was female, they cared that her powers were accelerating faster than they should be as established in previous films. You can blame their gender if you like, but there's more substance to it. Everyone loves Leia, everyone likes Padme.

Don't forget that fan edit of the film that cut out female characters, that was downloaded a ridiculous amount of times. I remember the outcry about that film, to pretend that it wasn't about the female focus is just not true. Geek culture is filled with such misogyny, I should know because I'm into all the geeky ****. It's the same crowd that gets upset whenever there's a gay person in a video game or a female character that isn't dressed up in an armoured bikini. Thesde people see such things as 'political' and act like politics shouldn't have a role in the things they love as they read and watch Game of Thrones, read, play and watch the Witcher, play their Call of Duties, Metal Gear Solid and JRPGs that end with the main characters overthrowing governments and religions and killing God itself. They always call it politics and it's always bull****. |

![]() Do you think people would be defending the characters if they were male? Jake Lloyd's childhood was basically ruined by the backlash from his appearance in Phantom Menace, and I don't think that's ever talked about. Same with Jar Jar's actor, Ahmed Best, he actually considered suicide over the online abuse he was facing, and no-one said he should be left alone either.

The problem is that there's an almost cult-like extended SW fan base that goes back literally decades, and whenever that happens, you will see a lot of hatred mounting over perceived issues where it would be overlooked elsewhere. Star Wars especially is quite a divided fan base - half like the lore and extended universe and want to see those concepts and stories taken and run with in a more... modern... way (I personally fall into this category) - others are in it for the nostalgia and mainly looking to "recapture the originals". The results are mixed. I personally think the absolute worst of the new movies are when they come off as cheesy late 70's "family films" and I would VERY much welcome a darker, "15"-rated Star Wars story ![]() ![]() ![]() This is probably why I much prefer SW video games to the movies... I like the lore a lot, I sort of intensely dislike the schlocky "let's recapture the original movies" stuff. I also liked The Mandalorian and hope they continue in a similar direction with the other Disney+ stuff in future. |

The Force Awakens is the best film by far in the trilogy, TLJ was a decent 7/10 but I feel like it's been made retroactively worse by this film given that TLJ was basically bridge between the first and last films and the payoff in the last film just wasn't worth it.

If I were to rank all the SW films, it'd go:
1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. A New Hope 3. Revenge of the Sith 4. Return of the Jedi 5. Rogue One 6. The Rise of Skywalker 7. The Force Awakens 8. The Last Jedi 9. Attack of the Clones 10. The Phantom Menace Haven't seen Solo. |

They should have gone forward with the new characters only in the new films.
That would have saved the complaints of Luke acting out of character in Last Jedi, which weren't unreasonable because his story was supposed to have finished in Return of the Jedi. However Disney wanted the nostalgia boost - Force Awakens to make 2 billion dollars instead of 1 billion, and no-one complained at the time about the originals coming back. |
