A charity event like that is no place for politics, not surprised they wanted him off

Let's be real, Cherie, if it was some pro-brexit comedian then he would have been cheered on and beloved by that crowd. It's not that it's 'no place for politics', it's that the crowd can only tolerate views that they approve of.

Not necessarily, I’m anti Brexit and would be annoyed to be subjected to it at a fundraising event

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Confused as to why you would book him, when he presents The Mash Report and is pretty well-renowned for being left-leaning and political, only to complain about his set being left-leaning and political.
I find his voice extremely irritating but I would not waste precious bread on the poor fellow.

To be honest the best possible response a comedian telling anti-Brexit jokes would get from a Brexit supporting crowd would be uncomfortable silence or nervous laughter.

All comedians bomb throughout their careers. Even comedians much better than Nish. Wrong crowd for that material, is all.

Imagine it, going out on a night to have fun whilst raising for charity, and some random starts yapping on about brexit....it don't matter how you are voting you would just boo and yawn in thier face.

Quand il pleut, il pleut

...I guess that I agree with what Greg James said...Nish Kumar gave his time for free in support of the charity event and didn’t deserve to be abused...either verbally or baguettably....he hadn’t realised that any people would be offended and has apologised if his act ‘triggered any of the audience..’...
‘BBC Radio One DJ Greg James – a huge cricket fan and Lord's Taverners ambassador – today tweeted a staunch defence of the comedian and criticised the people who booed him. 'I'd just like to say that the treatment of @MrNishKumar by some members of the crowd at the @LordsTaverners fundraising Christmas lunch yesterday was appalling', he said. 'It's a charity I was proud to be an ambassador of and the work they do with disadvantaged young people is extraordinary. 'But yesterday served as a timely reminder that disagreeing with someone doesn't mean you have the right to abuse them verbally or physically. 'I was devastated for Nish (who gave his time for free) I was embarrassed to be there. On an afternoon that was supposed to be about kindness, there was a distinct lack of it in the room.' ....anyways, the lunch still raised £160,000 for the charity and Nish Kumar seemed to take it all in good spirits and made light of it... 'In my defence, it was only one bread roll and it missed me.'... ![]()

People are not obliged to find a comedian funny, surely. And they were having Christmas lunch, I imagine a certain amount of alcohol had been downed.
Anyway, I refuse to believe it's the first time Nish Kumar has been booed off. |

I too though, think he's probably used to being booed off stage or icy silences.

Because comedians can make jokes about anything.
Only snowflakes call it a political rant when they don't like the subject matter. Last edited by Marsh.; 03-12-2019 at 10:22 PM. |

Either way the crowd should be more respectful towards people, We've all probably attended events where we've not liked certain individuals but you shouldn't want to hurt/throw Bread Rolls at them. Imo it says more about the crowd than it does about the Comedian, and I like you Marsh find it funny how some of these people on Social Media are being Snowflakes about the Comedian but are quick to call Remainers Snowflakes. ![]()
