...there are a lot of pics now appearing online/in social media etc of different lunches being supplied...they obviously vary because they’ll all be sourced differently but so many just aren’t good at all...this was another that a parent posted...

To be fair this highlights a larger problem; school meals are £2 a day (whether you pay for them yourself or they're council-funded) but the tat that's actually provided is worth, at most, 50p - £1.

A cheap "main" like a sausage roll bought in large supply, probably about 15p each
A spoonful of beans (not branded) - 5p?
A handful of cheap chips - next to nothing
A small, cheap apple or other fruit - maybe 10p
Yoghurt or some other cheap desert - maybe 20p
Cup of fruit juice, from large "concentrate" jugs - maybe 5p

I make that like 50 - 75p max. There's just no way what they actually get comes in at £2 a day.

There's a reason that I would never dream of paying £10 a week EACH for my kids to eat school meals, they're abysmal... they've always taken their lunches. And, to be fair, I doubt we even spend £20 a week on packed lunch supplies... though I've never really counted. Maybe it is about that I guess.

I used to gamble mine away playing that game where you throw coins towards a wall and whoever got closest won the coins.

So I either starved or dined at the chippy like a King, depending how well I did.

reminds me of my college days when i was 16 that, sneaking into the bookies end of the day hoping to god i wouldn't get ID'd whilst spunking my EMA money on red or black, was usually 30 quid all or nothing, did a few walk of shames from college when i lost because i didn't have the bus fair to get home but when you won you felt minted, got to love an all or nothing scenario, good times.

They want to go to the meat market/auction. I get 5 big steaks for a tenner and about 9 or 10 chicken breasts for a tenner. Out of them I make pies, stews, curries, stir fries, wraps ect. That £20 worth of meat will do me for a couple of months. . I get good filling meals out of it.

Prime advice for the government, if they were looking to feed solo blokes in their 40's.

without getting into the politics of it, if you are going to the trouble of giving people food, it needs to be of an appropriate standard, and what i've seen just isn't

For goodness sake, they can't even get this right.

Just put in place what's needed, stop messing about with children now too, to try to save a few pence.

This government is awful.
Rashford has pointed this out for how long now, the government should be pointing it out and dealing with it to make sure nutritious and adequate goods are supplied for children.

Vicky Ford is a very inappropriately named Minister, in relation to her children title.
Shocking that this is even an issue.

Just do what's right and MAKE sure it is done right too.
