That's literally it.

Meanwhile in other news... the tories are breaking the law... again.

You will find there was exceptional circumstances surrounding that...ie, emergency situations.

I would have done the same myself in that situation, a situation where speed was of an essence.

…tbf, this is a really perfect example of how it’s less about news or facts etc and more about creating outrage …facts/news etc don’t create the talking points, it’s outrage that does because it’s outrage that gathers into a collective so easily and so quickly…it’s a willingness to genuinely believe that if a picture is changed in a common room that none of us ever knew was there anyway…somehow there is a bigger meaning that national concern needs to represent….the media reported more detail around the pic being removed and stored and it’s a two way thing…it’s not just how the media report, it’s how it’s all absorbed as well …

A few years ago, in about 2013, they bought a print of a photo of the Queen to decorate their common room.

…also interesting what Marsh said in that outrage is often used to divert that ‘meanwhile in other news…’ stuff….

This is my point too Ammi.
I mean the rag that is used so often on here to supposedly make valid extreme points like the Mail..
Even worse those tabloid trash.

They long ago stopped being 'NEWS' papers.
They are publications and determinedly by their own choice to be divisive publications.

Avoiding real news, that is negative to their own agendas.

The duty of a real news industry should be to present the news as it is.
Good and bad.
Not how they want it to be.

The press particularly have just got shamefully worse.
I actually think we have the worst press possible now..
Why people waste at least hundreds of pounds a year, every year on the gutter trash they are, astounds me..

I've long held the view if someone quotes the press to me it's going to be more likely wrong than right.

you missed out the culprit was American and he cited BS "Colonial" tropes as a reason

hence the reason the story got traction

and as is always said all stories get covered and i am sure the Guardian, Indie, Mirror , NYT, CNN, BBC, ITV, Twitter and myriad other media covered all aspect fo the "Tories" today

no point pretending 3 newspapers are all media

So?
The nationality of one of the students and the reason they didn't want that particular decoration in their common room is really neither here nor there.

The next gen of students in the common room will no doubt vote on another change of decor in the future. The portrait is in storage, it's not been burned or vandalised.

There's really more important things in the world.

The Tories breaking the law?

The UK:

Better to get mad about a painting being put in storage than actual corruption in the government being proven yet again.

Some say corruption, others see it as snap, life saving decisions.

I don't get why Tory supporters are so loyal. The tories are literally giving millions to their donors using public funds, and it's all sham deals.

The tories are handing over money that could have gone towards more equipment and resources and instead they gave it to their friends and it's okay because a bunch of tory supporting sheep will pretend that's them making 'snap, life saving decisions.'

Tory Supporters must have no self respect to excuse the tories trampling all over them like that.

Boris Johnson joins ‘culture wars’ attack on students for removing Queen portrait at Oxford college

Boris Johnson has weighed in on the “culture wars” battle over the removal of a portrait of the Queen from an Oxford students’ common room by sending out a message that he “supports” education secretary Gavin Williamson’s criticism of the decision.....

I still maintain although I don't agree with the reported reason re the Queen.
I still maintain the rights of students to vote and decide what they want in THEIR common room during their time at University.

I agree Joey. Personally, we had a cork board covered in newspaper and magazine clippings that we would rearrange into imaginative and highly offensive phrases. Who needs pictures of Liz.

How dare they choose to decorate their shared living space as they wish, the disrespectful youth these days! This wouldn’t have happened under Thatcher!!

A crap analogy that makes no sense.

Are we going to start policing people's decisions for what images they do or don't display in their own living spaces?

Are we going to make it compulsory for an image of the Queen to be displayed? Despite the image in question only being there from 2013?

Having read the full story now, and understand that the picture was a photograph purchased by previous students and installed in 2014. The papers had intimated that it was a painting that had hung for years. Shameful display by the tabloids as usual.
