I kind of think the opposite - Ep 7 should have been a "last hurrah" for the old cast. They should have all been there and been together, while introducing the new characters to the "world" of the Jedi and the Rebellion. During the story the various batons - Luke and Anakin's sabre, the Falcon, the Droids - should have been passed on,before either some heroic sacrifices or just something which lets the old characters step back and let the new ones carry on the trilogy.

had seen this on Sunday for first time

overall i had quite liked it, really liked the battle scenes myself

must also say Warning spoiler-heavy
Spoiler:

i really liked how they had ended Leia's storyline i mean it was a must due to Carrie's passing irl, but at least her death having made some sense to distract Kylo enough for Rey to stab him, also her curing him and that small cameo of Han Solo's ghost also made sense to make him Ben Solo again, and no longer Kylo Ren, i liked that part in the movie

but my overall score would be 9.0/10

side note, Billy Dee Williams looks still quite good despite his age of 83

They made it look like he was flirting with that girl at the end.

i more had a thought like ''maybe for possible new material for an eventual spin off'' about this girl since she doesn't know where she is from

All this could have been covered if Palpy said something about his bloodline being very powerful in the Force, or even that he was remotely helping her out so she'd be stronger when he was ready to use her...

Palpatine secretly transferring force "power ups" to Rey across the galaxy would have been an amazing twist

I finally saw this last night and it was pretty entertaining but there was quite a lot I didn't like

Spoiler:

I can't get on board with this whole idea of physical objects being able to be passed through the force. It made it kinda annoying that Kylo could then instantly tell where Rey was so whenever she went anywhere he would just pop up ten minutes later

Rey was pretty inconsiderate of her friends really. How many times did she just ditch them unexplained to go off on her own adventure putting them at big risk

The inability of people to die was a bit annoying. If Rey actually had killed Chewie that could have been a really good plot development rather than there happening to have been two massive ships that were able to land and leave again right by Rey and Co without them noticing. Also you feel kinda sad for Poes friend who sacrificed her chance of leaving the planet by giving him the Captains badge until it turns out she somehow managed to leave the planet anyway before it was blown up

Having another blow up planets device was itself a bit dull

Why make Kylo and Rey's thing romantic just as he dies

Like Oliver said it makes a mockery of the fact Anakins whole motivation for joining the Sith was to save Padme as bringing someone back to life was meant to be a near impossible power that was only possible through the Sith

The Knights of Ren were a cool concept but never actually did anything

Why did Rey have to be a Skywalker. I thought she might want to reclaim the name Palpatine given that her parents were also Palpatines who sacrificed themselves for her

Overall I just didn't like how this film like the other two new ones relied so much on nostalgia for the OT and trying to recreate those. For all their faults I will always like the prequels for their ambition and originality

But I did like the space fights and the glimpses of different planets we got and I think Poe is pretty cool
