As for setting a precedent for how the tabloids treat people in future, its all been done before numerous times (by members of the royals before her as well) and it has made no difference.
In the case of private letters I totally agree they should remain private for both the writer and the recipient and the win was correct.

I don't understand what hypocrisy there is though. Meghan feels her privacy has been invaded by her father releasing the letter and that is what has been the crux of this case. Her issue is with the publication in this case, not her father. If he had an issue with previous interviews, that was for him to then take similar action against that publication. It is not Meghan taking on her father in this case. She has taken exception at this publication, as is her right. She has taken legal action which has ruled in her favour in the points of law therefore no hypocrisy or unfairness.

Had she sued her father, I would understand your view more but in this case I don't see what the problem is.

Meghan took no exception at this publication as it showed her in a good light and him bad. Unlike Meghan he hadn’t the deep pockets, if needed, to sue People even if he had wanted to.

The defense of how he was portrayed in the People mag was the reason her father showed the letter to the paper in the first place who then printed extracts and led to them being sued by Meghan.
I’m referring to the human side of things here, not just points of law. I see unfairness and hypocrisy in this.

Tbh this is one of those issues where it's quite black and white and no matter how much some people may dislike Meghan, the correct verdict was handed out.

However I also agree with Jet that Meghan shouldn't have been showing off her Father's letter to People Magazine.

The human side is pretty murky I will agree. However, so was him selling photographs before the wedding. There is fault on both sides but it seems that only Meghan receives the derision from lots of people

That's because she is the one who is the instigator of trouble….its a recurring theme...
If she hadn’t point blank refused Palace aids “who were tearing their hair out” advice to let them help and advise her father after the engagement news broke, those photos wouldn’t have been taken.

The paps were all over him for months after that, day after day. Whenever he had to leave the house they published the most unflattering pics they could and painted him as a slob (he has a big belly!)
In desperation, he spruced himself up and let them take some staged pics on the agreement they would leave him alone.
They didn’t, of course. Whether he got paid for them we don’t know for sure - I’d guess he did - but it’s really not miles away from Meghan releasing flattering pics for her website/business/blog.
How she could then ruthlessly cut him out of her life for good for that, I can’t fathom. Seems the punishment doesn’t quite fit the crime here…..because I can see it from his point of view, but not from hers in this case.

Because she isn’t a criminal, she hasn’t done anything wrong and she hasn’t done anything problematic not like you can judge since you wanted trump to free a dangerous criminal. People are offended by anything she does... people even made an issue over the whole ‘husband and I’ thing. It does get toxic here and social media. It’s a fact and not exaggerated

no-one normally has their family relationships plastered all over the press, so I don't think anyone can judge who was right or wrong between Meghan and her father. I'm not actually sure why anyone cares, it's nobody's business but theirs
